She's fine in my opinion. I suspect riot designed her only to punish bad behaviors in the player base. Like leaving a teamate (or your own spirit) behind. Standing still while she swing her tentacles on you or else not buying the items that were made to annihilate her late game (

Her main weakness is in itemization. She needs a ton of hp and a ton of AD. Which turn her into a decent bruiser, but not the best one as she can't afford real attack speed or crit (because her kit have no use of it), nor armor and mr (because she direly need AD instead to be any useful). Because of that, she's very vulnerable to counter builds.
her E is too abusive and her damage scaling is not just absurd. but absolutely bullshit.
She's so easy to gank, like unimaginably easy. She has 0 mobility, only flash to escape a gank. With Illaoi, you push really hard, smashing your opponent's minions as well as them, and killing minions to land e. Just gank her, and shes bad for the rest of the game. ez
I think her kit is just incredibly powerful as a whole. She does too much damage for being as tanky as she is. My thoughts on fixing her would be to
a) make her more squishy b) lower her damage output c) fine tune the amount of healing she gets from tentacle hits.
Ideally, it would be a mix of all three of the above. Don't break her and make her absolutely useless, but a slight nerf is necessary imo.
At the moment, as many people before have mentioned, I find her to be much like darius or garen right after their reworks. You're afraid to go in on them because of their strength but doing nothing and playing very passive will grant her complete and utter control of the lane and you'll fall behind very quickly, which is definitely not what you want either.
I saw someone before me mention that she has no escape mechanisms. This is true, she's slow with no abilities to help her get away. But in my experience, Illaoi's who have at least one item and the components for a second actually don't really feel the need to run, especially with the ultimate up. When you get ganked, try to run. But if you can't, ultimate and focus the more threatening attacker. The heals from your tentacles and your damage will either kill both of them, or at least thwart the gank and save you. Essentially, you've used your damage as your escape and the tentacles' heal is so potent that you are unlikely to die. And your ult spawns more tentacles for the number of enemies around, so you won't be fighting 3 enemies with only a single tentacle to help you.
This to me seems slightly...skewed.
Less tentacles everywhere and lower the damage, her whole concept is dumb, stop releasing alphas.
Shes just like a female version of Darius...why are people complaining so much? and Darius gets around easier than she does he's more scary imo seriously someone said make her more squishy? thats the point shes meant to be tanky when someone actually bothers to fight her instead of running when she pulls their spirit...duh I think thats how shes supposed to be played tanky yea AD makes you wreck face but if your whole team focuses her she can go down quick so a bit of ad and lots of tank is how to really play her
Her laning phase is really dominant atm they should focus on nerfing that in my opinion.
She's garbage.
Her tentacles does not fit with any game conceptions like skill shots and towers. Nothing in LOL can't be attacked by towers/skill shots but her tentacles. What RIot is thinking - its just not balanced at all.
Otherwise the fact that she has so many tentacles just ruins any teamfights as soon as she does her ultimates. We just don't see anything and we have computer generated minions doing the job that hero usually does. It somewhat weird.
After Mid game, she hurts a lot, but I doubt Illaoi needs more nerfing than a slight decrease of her base damage numbers
IF her E is suppose to require team work to make it work the nit should have a shorter period of making t he spirit then 10 seconds at the first rank.
She's a little crazy... I've faced an Illaoi that lost in lane, but still came out on top because of all the random tentacles and the healing from the tentacles. She ended up being able to hold her own against 3 people with hard cc with little effort until her team showed up. She did go
after her third item she just kind of did whatever she wanted with all her health and tentacle damage...
Please!!!!!, low her damage output and the heal from the tentacles, and maybe the width of her tentacles too.
A nice nerf would be also if you set a limit of tentacels in certain area. Because if your team reach an area with some tentacles and she is just waiting to catch the 5 with her ult is just awful to deal with 8 or more tentacles, and the healing to her from all of them; and that is just Illiaoi by herself... IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME
It's maddening the damage she deals early even if she doesn't get feed.
