Stuck In Bronze For Life

CorporalBruno··3 votes·1,156 views

Lets discuss:

I have over 150 wins in Ranked play this season, but I'm still in bronze 5. Why? Well, we all have our bad games, I'm a grown up and can take responsibility, but let's discuss how this game requires 5 people (sometimes 4) to win a game. As a player with nearly 2000 games played I can offer advice to other players on what tactics to use to win a game or battle. But, how do most players receive that advice? Every once in a while you get the, "thanks for that, sounds good let's try it," but mostly you get, "KYS", "STFU UR TRASH", etc.

Reporting these players is fine, but that doesnt save your league points or advancement possibility.

Let's not even get into those who just troll, whether a jinx jungle or shaco adc or veigar top. Yesterday I had a jungle veigar.

The thing is, I could understand being matched up with these players in solo/duo queue if I were less than 50 games into the ranked league. But I have over 150 wins, have been to silver 5 and bronze 1 multiple times and back down. Shouldn't I be playing with some more experienced players?

This brings me to my solution. If RIOT were to add more divisions below bronze, like iron, steel, wood, etc., then the inexperienced, bad players, and trolls would occupy a lower division and allow other players to move up into higher ELO.

I wouldn't mind queuing for longer times to play with players of similar experience. I look through my ranked divisions and see that there are players with over 300 wins in bronze 5. They shouldn't be there. Maybe once you reach a certain number of wins you get locked at a level which you cant fall below for that season.

It just seems that it's nearly impossible to rise out of bronze and silver with the volume of trolls and players who refuse to work as a team or accept advice from more experienced players this season.

Thanks for hearing me out.

I can assure you that "trolls" aren't the reason you're stuck in Bronze.

CorporalBruno1 votes

You yourself even have commented before on the no difference feel between ranked divisions. Silver and Gold? https://gyazo.com/37868314d44d72982dbf037b9da39465

Im saying that we just need to spread the ELO out further on the bottom end. I also said that trolls arent the only reason, if you read my whole post. I shouldn't be playing with players who have 3 wins and 13 losses at this point. When I'm explaining phases of gameplay in ranked after having 150+ wins, something is wrong with matchmaking.

BALDG1VEN BOOMER2 votes

I don't think you know how MMR works.

CorporalBruno1 votes

Feel free to explain it.

CorporalBruno1 votes

This is the generic link to ELO Rating systems. This is not necessarily how League Of Legends matchmaking works. Please link to an actual source for LOL mm or else you are providing nothing really new.

BALDG1VEN BOOMER1 votes

The elo system is MMR based, Riot provides no other explanations to how this system exactly works, if you're unable to use your brain to find the correlation then there's nothing else I can provide you with.

I have over 150 wins in Ranked play this season, but I'm still in bronze 5. Why?

Because you don't play good enough to climb. Blaming it on bad teams, a bad ranked system, on tilting team mates, on anything but yourself is going to prevent you from climbing the ladder. If you don't realize that you're bad at the game you most likely won't improve any time soon.

As a player with nearly 2000 games played I can offer advice to other players on what tactics to use to win a game or battle. But, how do most players receive that advice?

Since you're stuck in the lowest division possible, I have a hard time believing that you actually know what to do to win a game. Besides that nobody made you the team captain or shotcaller. Nobody has to listen to what you're saying. If I was concidered to be one of the worst players of the entire game not able to climb out of the lowest division and then someone who thinks he is better than me even though he probably isn't starts telling me what to do I wouldn't be happy either. No wonder you get negative responses

but mostly you get, "KYS", "STFU UR TRASH", etc.

Which will never change. People don't lose their toxicity once they reach a certain division.

Reporting these players is fine, but that doesnt save your league points or advancement possibility.

Imagine this for a second. The next game you play will have a troll, afk or feeder. There is a 4/9 chance he will be on your team and a 5/9 chance he will be on the enemy team. Therefore, if you manage to play consistently and have a good attitude, you'd climb BECAUSE of trolls, feeders and leavers. If we could look at all the games which were decided by things like that, you would probably have won more LP than you lost.

Shouldn't I be playing with some more experienced players?

If atm you play like someone in Bronze 5, no. There are a lot of very experienced and also very bad players in Bronze 5 ... you included. You are not good at the game if you lose more games than you win, especially not against the worst players of the game

It just seems that it's nearly impossible to rise out of bronze and silver with the volume of trolls and players who refuse to work as a team or accept advice from more experienced players this season.

I already mentioned that. If every single game had 1 troll, you would statistically win more than you lost, concidering you're not the troll.

The reason you're stuck in Bronze 5 is not because of trolls, flamers or people leaving games. There is only one single reason: You're bad at the game. If you want to improve yourself, complaining about teams and the ranked system won't help you at all.

It's time to L2P ... and I don't mean this ironically

While I appreciate that you took the time to tell me the problem is me, I have admitted in my post that sometimes I have a bad game.

Let me give you an example.

Monday of last week I made it to bronze 2. In that same day (im a disabled combat veteran so I play video games all day while my kids are at school), I played 8 games and lost 8 due to afk, trolls or feeders who wouldnt work as a team. Each game I played really well and was happy with my performance. At the end of the day I was back in bronze 4.

I will continue to learn to play, and I watch videos and read guides. I watch the pros play consistently. The troll/bad player ratio is much higher than one per game. Its more like 2 - 3 per game.

I wouldn't care if there were no trolls/bad players on the other team. I would enjoy a well balanced fight of equal ELO. Its no fun to win when the other team receives one of these players either.

Hoping the new honor system also adjusts who they get matched up to play with. Higher honor players playing together in matchmaking and lower honor players playing with each other.

Also, you seem to say similar things in posts to others. Even though you've never played with them or me, you still lay the blame on us.

https://gyazo.com/20fb29fe5140e401a0bac188d08472be

Players like myself are willing to reach out and explain our experiences in the forums to the developers as to hope to spark some sort of revolution of gameplay. I guess we could just get bored of being matched up with these players, grinding for days on end to reach a higher ELO, just to be slammed back to bronze 5 and just quit playing the game. This would just leave the bad players and the trolls to play with each other while the more responsible players go play something else.

Frustrated with my teammates is the story I'm telling. Whether they be bad or bad on purpose, I'm ready to play with some like minded people.

Good day.

Coopa1232 votes

Also, you seem to say similar things in posts to others. Even though you've never played with them or me, you still lay the blame on us.

You're the only consistant factor in all of your games. You're the only one to blame for the ELO you're in. That's simply a fact. Of course you can blame everyone but yourself to make yourself feel better, but the fact that you're the only one responsible for your ELO is still true

CorporalBruno2 votes

I did say I have bad games. I accept that. I was just in a game with a toxic jax who was high as fuck and did nothing but tilt the other players verbally. In addition to that we had a twitch who was new to the champ and fed bottom lane. Rakan Akali and myself played really well and almost carried to victory. The other team had 5 players working together and they still beat us. So again, how did my gameplay and attitude cause me to get that loss?

LightIsMyPath3 votes

I get what you are saying.. Actually I think we're very similar from your words . Tell me if I got it right: You are the kind of player who is rather theorically prepared with an idea of what his role in the team and expects others to know it too. You are not the"I get 30 kills and murder everyone " type but you think you do what you should and find unpleasant when find teammates that deviate from his expectations

CorporalBruno2 votes

I am 100% try hard and get objectives, group and win type of player. Use pings etc. I find it unpleasant not when they deviate from my expectations but rather not play as a team. When 2 or 3 players say, "hey lets do this", or "don't split push as an adc at level 16", and they continue to do so and overextend and die, those are the players that make me upset.

LightIsMyPath2 votes

Yes that is what I meant by"expectations" . I mean for me personally I don't care much if one hasn't good mechanics (I don't have them either) but when one does something without sense I get tilted (idk like splitting as an immobile ADC, not splitting when you play a pusher and we are vs a teamfight comp, not coming to siege when we have a splitpusher being chased by 3 people.. That kind of things)

CorporalBruno3 votes

Yep. And its fine even if they dont know this at first, at least listen when its brought to your attention. The ones that are like STFU ILL DO WHAT I WANT, those make me want to uninstall.

LightIsMyPath2 votes

Same.. I mean what's the problem in considering advise, I don't get it. I always consider suggestions from teammates and I 'd like them to do the same

Limmie3 votes

Your team can't prevent you from climbing. You get the same kind of teammates as your enemies do, and for every game you lost just because of your teammates trolled, there's a game that you won just because someone on the enemy team trolled. That's just how statistcs work, every free loss is balanced out by a free win and the net result is just your own personal contribution since you're the only constant in all your games.

CorporalBruno2 votes

Thats not nearly true. Statistics over 1,000,000 games may provide this to be true, but in my 1600 games I've experienced it to be untrue. I dont get a troll/feeder one game, then my enemy the next. I've played whole days with bad teams.

Limmie3 votes

100 samples is more than enough to normalize a 50% probablity variable. 1000 samples is outright redundant. You are not a special individual cursed with bad luck, your experiences do not defy statistcs. It's all on you, not your teammates, and the sooner you understand that the better for you.

LOLOL sure and that is why they said Trump would lose. 100 samples is NOTHING. 1000 samples is nothing. You have no clue how statistics work.

Limmie3 votes

Sample sizes are only related to how many relevant variables there are, and in this case it's only one. Flipping a coin 20 times is more than enough to see if it's loaded or not, you don't need to flip it 100 times, and you definitely don't need to flip it 1000 times. What happened to Trump's polls was a matter of poor sample choice (not randomizing it properly), not of sample size. That and bought out and fraudulent polls, but it's neither here nor there.

I can go on and prove it to you mathematically, but unless you have any idea of what confidence intervals and a z-test means, it will just go over your head. So I'll suggest you stop talking from your ass to people who know better than you.

Mig891 votes

If youre in bronze you can expect everyone on your team to be bad. Play a split pusher and know when its a good idea to split push. Play champs who can rush down objectives. One of the best for this is xin xao. He may be a bit boring to play but you can solo drags/baron easily with three items and he shreds towers quickly. Hes good in teamfights with his sustain and ult.

This is NOT the case. I have good play and get matched with REALLY bad players because Riot thinks I can carry them. This happens way more often then not.

Limmie3 votes

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias

At any rate, the same thing that happened to you would happen to the enemy. If both teams are equally affected by it, the net effect is null.

CorporalBruno1 votes

Which is sort of the point I'm making. You win 2 lose 2 because of these players being matched up with you and others similar to yourself and you go nowhere. Stuck in bronze forever. They need to be shuffled down to lower ranking divisions or not matched with players who have put in over 100+ wins.

Limmie1 votes

Except it doesn't happen every single game. If you lose 2 games because of trolls on your team, win 2 times because of trolls in their team, then win 1 match on your own (meaning 80% of troll games, which is already way too high), then you'll be at 60% winrate, and all you need is to be above 50% to climb. If the system did enforce a 50% winrate on everyone, then nobody would ever climb at all and everyone would be on the same tier, from Faker to the fresh-into-level 30 guy. Which is not what happens at all, people climb and fall all the time.

WitchQueen Annie2 votes
  1. SPECIALIZE. Pick 2 to 4 champions (1 champion is fine if he's never banned) and STICK to them. "Jack-of-all-trades and master of none" makes it harder to climb. But if you know a few champions INSIDE OUT and can carry with them through practice, it will make the whole thing easier. You want games to be predictable and to stick to your strengths (ex I mostly spam Vladimir, Renekton, for the odd game I go Viktor and Ashe). You need to have a practiced Support for auto fill operations, preferably someone who can soft carry a game (ex Nautilus). Its going to get boring at times playing less than 5 champs but you should stick to it, its very high reward. SPECIALIZATION is good for the economy, and its good for climbing too.

  2. Play solo lanes (Top and Mid), forget about Bot and forget about Jg. If you get to the point where you can win your solo lane 60-70% of the time it will help you climb massively. You have almost no control over who wins in Bot and Jg is very team reliant (and at higher levels, very mind-game-heavy). 1 vs 1 in Top or Mid is much easier to practice, perfect, and carry from.

  3. FOCUS THE DAMN TOWERS. Pretend its called League of Towers. Defend your Towers, take the enemy Towers. Your team does stupid tower dives instead of focusing the Towers? Ignore them and get safe damage on the Towers. Ping your team to take care of the Towers, pretend the Towers are Aircraft Carriers. You don't want to fight a naval war without them.

CorporalBruno1 votes

You literally sound like me pregame and in game. Alas, the ones who are focused on being good teammates and using teamwork listen or agree and we win. The ones who are like STFU I'LL DO WHAT I WANT are the ones who cost the loss.

I used to play quinn top or mid only. Now I play anivia mid or morgana support. I'm thinking of going back to just queuing for top/mid as I climbed faster.

ƒrostγ1 votes

If you are good enough ( aka better than bronze level ) you could easily climb even with a troll pick like on-hit Lulu adc.

Holy Fervor1 votes

Machine Gun lulu is actually legit though. I know people who carried with it to masters..

CorporalBruno1 votes

I've seen players do really well with machine gun lulu. But, im not trying to make the argument that I should be in diamond or platinum, just saying I should at least be locked in silver by now based on wins in season. I am saying that I shouldn't be matched up with players who have a 0.25% win ratio in ranked. Matchmaking is broken.

Coopa1235 votes

just saying I should at least be locked in silver by now based on wins in season

I don't think a bronze 5 player with a 44% winrate should be locked in silver for any reason whatsoever lol

CorporalBruno1 votes

56% of my matches are losses. How many of those are solely my fault? Lets be generous and say 33% of my losses are my fault alone for feeding or making bad plays in the last 90 seconds of the game. You can't say that I shouldn't be locked in silver because my win rate is such and such, when my argument to begin with is that games are nearly unwinnable because teamed with trolls and feeding players who dont even bring experienced champs to matches.

Coopa1234 votes

How many of those are solely my fault?

Checking your match history I can say with absolute certainty that a lot of the games you lose are because you played terrible and that you do not deserve to be locked in silver.

Look at your games from 3 days ago. There are 10 losses in a row where your scores are so bad that it's difficult for me to say whether you just played bad or straight up inted. Going 5-19 or 5-14 as a jungler is totally on you. It doesn't matter what your team picked, how your team played or whatever, not even somebody going afk could justify dying 19 times.

Quinn toplane (1-10-4). You got absolutely destroyed by another low bronze ELO player and you think you deserve to be locked in silver?

I mean just look at your builds, look at your score, even the summoner spells you pick are totally fucked. Exhaust/Teleport Blitzcrank support with AP items? Are you serious? And then you complain about Veigar jungle?

You're either trolling or delusional.

CorporalBruno1 votes

there was a stint of time where I lost focus and was trying to play as udyr jg and realized i'm not good enough to do such. I played that blitzcrank support and forgot to switch my tp spell to flash. Pretty sure I had redemption and a gold item that game. They requested I build ap other items.

The Quinn game i lost terribly, which is rare for me. I own that one.

You're one of the types I explained earlier where if we were playing together and I suggested a tactic you would tell me to STFU im trash. It's okay you are part of the problem not the solution.

Coopa1231 votes

I played that blitzcrank support and forgot to switch my tp spell to flash

You realize I can see your entire match history right? You have Teleport every single time you play Morgana support. And on top of that you played support with Exhaust and Teleport two times in a row.

Pretty sure I had redemption and a gold item that game.

No. No redemption and none of the 3 support items. And no warding item. And no sweeper.

And I just realized that you never buy any kind of ward items, and you never buy a red trinket. Great support. Right now it looks like you don't even know the essentials of playing support and you're telling me you should be locked in silver? Please ...

The Quinn game i lost terribly, which is rare for me. I own that one.

No. Also wrong. It is very rare for you to win solo lanes. Most of the time you're barely even and a lot of times you get absolutely destroyed. I concider dying twice in lane losing, dying 10+ times is getting absolutely destroyed.

You're one of the types I explained earlier where if we were playing together and I suggested a tactic you would tell me to STFU im trash.

I wouldn't call you trash. I would completely ignore you, especially if you clearly demonstrate your lack of knowledge about the game. You do not understand the game at all, why would I listen to your calls?

It's okay you are part of the problem not the solution.

Tell me more about solutions, you seem to know a lot. You being stuck in the lowest possible division, getting absolutely obliterated by the worst players of league of legends is because of teammates and unfair matchmaking... and your solution is to implement even lower divisions.

Great idea!

Im finding that you need to dodge a lot and I mean a LOT of games just like this one.

The Pros dodge often if they are autofilled into a role they are not "good" with or if they see a team pick that is way out of meta.

This is precisely why you remain in Bronze. You cannot control what other people do. Work on your own game and you will climb.

Two one-hour lessons bumped me from Bronze 4 to Silver 4 in about a month. I had been stuck in Bronze 4 and 5 for at least a year at that point.

One paid lesson for $5 will help you a lot. It only took two of these to get me to silver. I agree that LoL has a very good F2P model.

Lots of coaches charge $5 an hour.

On another note, we treat our veterans poorly, and that pisses me off. Sorry to hear things are hard for you.

Dodge more. Dodge any team that looks trollish. Dodge whenever someone is flaming in pregame lobby. Youll climb faster even when you dodge promos. Your MMR will go up quicker than your ELO which will result in more LP gains and less in losses.

CorporalBruno1 votes

dodging should NOT be the answer, and is precisely why RIOT should do something to fix the system. But thank you for your comment.

Mig892 votes

It shouldnt be the answer but it is. With only 5/20 minute waits that reset daily, ill take those over a half hour game with trolls or people who cant pick a good comp together because theyre stubborn or arent skilled enough to pick what a team needs. This is rampant in bronze. I seriously recommend playing carries in every role. I play zyra to climb out of bronze. Rushing eye, t2 boots, then rylais offers good damage and peel.

Those that climb out of Bronze/Silver abuse OP Meta champs until they get nerfed.

If you are not playing one of the top 15 win rate champs you will not climb.

If your team has less of the top 15 champs then the enemy you will lose >50% of the time.

Riot has ZERO clue how to balance this game.

not only were you running attack speed quints and marks but most of them were tier two runes.

your masteries were 0/18/12 and while i could go other all of them ill just point out you took increased healing on a champ with no heals.

and finally your skill order was q,e,q,e,w,r and then you maxed q 1st.
