Question about Ranked.

So i havent played ranked games yet and i kinda want to, but i heard you will get a league based on how much you have won in the 10 matches. So if i manage to win 8 games out of 10, would i get to be in the silver league directly? or i cant skip any levels.

There are more factors than just how many wins you got.

While this is an over simplification of the system, you can imagine that someone who won 8/10 games against Bronze 5 players isn't as impressive as someone who won 8/10 games against Plat 1 players.

Thank you for replying,
but what if it is a mixture of bronze silver and gold players?

DrCyanide2 votes

Again, lot of factors and math behind the scenes that I don't keep track of.

The system will try and place you lower than your actual skill level so that you have something to work for with ranked. Some people say it places you a whole tier below (so Gold 1 players get placed Silver 1), others think it's less than that.

You'll just have to finish them and find out where it puts you.

Your first ever placements will start from a static mid silver mmr (believed to be 1200). This is for everyone's first time. Your placements will then move you up or down accordingly. My first season I went 3-7 (yikes) yet placed s5, ended s2 before this season. This year I went 8-2 placed b1 and flew up to s3/s2 promos. Granted I've been on a major slide since then. I think the key is really just to not stress over placements and enjoy the ride.

I heard that if you get in bronze its pretty much impossible to get out of it, so i am trying my best not to fall into that zone haha. thank you for replying ^^

Starting from a blank account that has never played ranked.

8 out of 10 will probably net you gold 5 these days.

It used to take 10 solid wins to drop you in gold, but the system is more aggressive than it used to be. Chain winning boosts your MMR hard, and chain losing dumpsters it.

As long as you win 5, you're pretty much guaranteed Silver. (Maybe winning your first 5 and losing your last 5 might mess with it) Below 5, you're looking at bronze.

Again, that's a new account. If you have prior MMR from earlier seasons, you start with an adjusted MMR.

Xelnex1 votes

Thank you for replying :) What if i was silver the previous year, and i decide playing ranked again and get 5-6 wins out of 10, does that mean i can get to gold?

Amélie Cauchemar2 votes

winning 8/10 will put you mid gold nowadays.

10/10 is instant plat 5

Xelnex1 votes

Thank you, that was helpful ^_^

Take from this as you will: In my unranked placements for season 5, I went 6-4 and got Silver 2. I ended that season at Silver 2 the next week. In my Season 6 Placements I went 4-6 and got Bronze 2. So it seems that its really independent from the amount of wins/losses you have.

It kinda varies, I won 5 out of 10 of my games in s4 and got silver 4, but won 7/10 of my games in s5 and got bronze 2. Don't fret too much about your placements, if you get placed in a league you don't belong in you will get out. Don't blame ELO hell

There is such a thing as ELO Hell and it's Bronze. Don't EVER believe anyone that tells you "you will get where you belong". That's utter bullshit. As a supp or jg or ANY role, I continuously hand my team winning conditions, set them up for kills. If you have bad players (those that have no map awareness or don't know when to pressure objectives) on your team, you WILL FALL WITH THEM. DO NOT believe otherwise. Your job in low ELO is to CARRY the shittiest players out there. If you don't win, you don't earn LP, you don't climb.

That's the way it is. Win = LP = Climb. Your team is as strong as your weakest player. And man has Bronze been full of shit this week.

It's like it's a conspiracy to keep players in Bronze. You get this amazing win streak and then nothing but losses until you drop tier. This is why you just don't get out of Bronze on your own. System is broken. Game is broken.

Baunjo2 votes

Don't you mean you get put with better players than you did before you started winning? It's how the game works. If that statement about the game being broken is true, why isn't everyone in bronze?

Built to Tylt1 votes

Um, pretty much every one is. Look up the break down of tiers.

Junsui Aoi2 votes

Most are silver actually.

Baunjo2 votes

Lmao my conversation with you is done, stay in bronze >_>

Built to Tylt1 votes

People like you are what keep pretty fucking decent players down and stuck, mate.

Xelnex1 votes

Bad players this week? prolly because rito decided to lower the experience needed to get level 30 by half.
So a newbe level 30 is like the old level 17-20, hell i had zero map awareness and didnt know what an adc is till i was lv 14-16.

Also don't listen to Bronze trolls like this who don't know Jack. He's pissed off because he's in Bronze IV and can't get out. He can't accept that it's HIS play that's keeping him there so he has to blame the system and RIOT.

If you play 200ish ranked games over the course of a season and you belong in say Silver III- Gold V, there's basically no way you end the season in Bronze IV. Even if you can't hard carry every game you will tilt the odds into your favor and win more games then you lose and will rise. Keep in mind, all of the crap he talks about having to deal with on his team is exactly the same on the OTHER team.

At any given rank the players on BOTH teams are pulled from the same pool of players. Whatever crap you deal with some of the time will be equaled out by stupid things the OTHER team has to deal with in another randomly drawn game. What makes you rise or fall in the rankings over a large number of games is YOUR play and YOUR play only. YOU are the only constant in your games. Sometimes you have a troll, sometimes they do, sometimes your team gets lucky, sometimes they do. The only constant is YOU. If you play 200 games and don't move in rank it's because you are not shifting the odds into your teams favor with your play. You are the only constant.

Streamers constantly make a game of taking an account starting in Bronze V (easily done by dodging every placement game) and getting all the way to Diamond tier or above. If "ELO Hell" was so bad it was inescapable they wouldn't be able to make this run. Yet they do it over and over. It is NO DIFFERENT if you belong in Gold IV rather that Diamond I. You will rise from Bronze V over time, the only difference is you will settle out in Gold rather than Diamond.

I have personally done this. When they introduced the new Dynamic Que I was practicing new roles/champs in my Normals that I'm trying to learn (as I usually do) without realizing the MMRs were reset and early wins/losses mattered a lot for your MMR. I lost a lot of early games and soon realized I was playing with teammates almost exclusively in Bronze II and below.

Playing with summoners so far below my ranked placement is useless for practicing new champs to use in ranked games. So, I spent about two weeks playing only my main roles and my best champs in my normal games and I rose easily from playing with mid Bronze players to high silver and low gold players. I went from having the lowest MMR player on my team at around 1000 to having it at around 1600 in just two weeks, and my MMR is only around 1800.

It does not matter where you place, work hard, play well, and above all STAY POSITIVE even when the shit hits the fan and you will rise to where you belong by the end of the season. Don't believe anyone who says otherwise.

The people who are "stuck in Bronze" are the people who BELONG IN BRONZE. Most of them cannot admit that, and because they cannot admit that THEY are at fault they cannot and will not improve. They continue to labor under the false belief that they are gold material and nothing about their play needs to change, that it is "the system" that is keeping them down. The only way to improve is to change, and the only way to change is to recognize that what you are doing now is wrong. If you cannot admit that you are the reason you are in Bronze then you will never get out of Bronze, period.

Usually 8/10 should give you silver. Unless you played your norms like a god, then you might place even higher. Or lower.

This is ONLY for ranking the FIRST TIME EVER. If you ranked last season: expect to be that rank or below.

The usual questions: do you have at least 2 full rune pages? do you have enough champs to not be banned out of your chosen role(s)?

If you answered yes, and feel comfortable, then proceed :3 I would suggest taking a buddy into the first one, but placing without duoing is usually more accurate. I just say for the first one so you have someone to help against the sludge and slime called "chat."

Xelnex1 votes

Thank you, your words makes me feel a bit better haha. And rune pages? i have 1 full, gotta need 1 more. Enough champs? Not even 16 champs, i just practice every champs i buy and get at least level 4 with it till i buy a new champ.

But you have said

This is ONLY for ranking the FIRST TIME EVER. If you ranked last season: expect to be that rank or below.

Can it not be higher? What if i get bronze or silver, does that mean i cant ever get gold?

Also league of legends is a team game, what happens if you carry with 25/3/15, and get an S and your team feeds and you lose the game. That would count as a loss even if i got an S? i mean hell, i can be grouped with bad players for 10 games, and get a S every game but still get bronze because i didnt win a game :/

It happened to me before, i am not saying i am a pro player, but i lost about 15 games in a row because someone in the team had internet issues, or used Braum as adc .-.

Junsui Aoi2 votes

since you've never ranked, yes, you can get higher once you place. Possibly somewhere in Gold. After you place, assuming you know what you're doing, even if you had a bad string of games you should climb steadily. You'll have to play a lot of games to change divisions, but it can be done. I'm currently aiming for gold this season and I'm starting out at S5. :3

I don't want to raise hopes, but my friend went 3/10 in placements and still managed silver.

And yes. Even if you get an S, a loss is a loss, sadly.

Xelnex1 votes

Another question, what if i get a gold, would that mean that i would be queued up against gold, platinum and silver players?(in normal)

when i was like rank 20 or something i used to be queued up against level 10 to 30, when i reached 30 i hardly got any lower levels to play, most of the time i play against silver players.

And Whats the benefit of getting a rank? i heard that if you get gold you will get some skins, etc, is that true?

Junsui Aoi1 votes

If you get gold, odds are you'll face a lot of gold/plat players. If you lose a few games, you'll be looking more at silver/gold players. Your mmr will change, thus changing the player-base you'll be fighting. Obviously there are exceptions, but that's the general rule of thumb. Multi-queue'ing will throw this off.

Once you're 30 its EXTREMELY rare to face those under 30. That usually only happens in cases of multi-queues.

The benefit of bronze/silver: a border, a wards, an icon. All of which represent where you ended. Gold+: Same as above, that year's victorious skin and ward. Shinier border.

That's why a lot of people aim for gold and just stop there. You don't get more benefits past that, besides bragging rights, but then people say rank doesn't matter thus reducing the bragging rights.

Xelnex1 votes

So if i dont play, my rank will go down eventually, from gold to bronze again, so that does means i will be queued against normal 30 level players right?

Junsui Aoi1 votes

nah, your rank with stay the same. And even if someone is ranked silver or ranked plat, they're still "normal level 30s." though from what I've heard, ranked mmr is different than normal mmr. So I don't really know what you'd be facing in normal queue.

I think ranked decay (your rank decreasing from not playing any ranked for some time) only happens for diamond and up. Maybe plat, but for sure diamond and up. Definitely not for gold and below.

Xelnex1 votes

If you ranked last season: expect to be that rank or below.

but you said this ... ^ and whenever i play with gold ppls on my side, i get played against gold players too...

Junsui Aoi1 votes

in placements. I played ranked last year and got to S2. So I won like 7/3 and got silver 5. If I had never played ranked and this was my first season, I would have gotten like S3-S1.

When seasons change, the mmr gets reset lower than where you were at. Ignore that, cause you didn't rank last year.

My recommendation to you would be: If you have a friend who plays ranked and you believe is roughly the same skill level as yourself, duo que with that person for all your placement games. That will ensure you are playing your starting games with people roughly where you belong. That will help you normalize close to an appropriate rank.

That being said, don't worry too much about your starting location. If you are placed well below your rank you will rise quickly. It is even possible to skip tiers after a promotion series. This season I got pretty screwed on my placements and ran into a lot of trolls and rage quitters in my first 6 games. I ended up 5-5 in my placements and was put into Silver 1 (I ended last season Gold 1) . However, I moved up easily getting 25-30 LP for wins and losing 10-15 for losses and I jumped straight from Gold 5 to Gold 3 in one promo. In under 80 games I'm back in Gold 1 and close to a promo to Plat.

If you belong much higher than you place you will move up quickly. The best thing is to get the promos out of the way so that you have the whole season to move up to where you belong.
