Time to correct the myth that typing something to a teammate makes them "play worse"

Let's all have the honest discussion riot refused to let you have on why you lose games. you lose because you play worse, not because someone types omg our jungle sucks as your jungler reaches 0/5/1 at 15 minutes never ganking or being counter jungled. Ok so please stop the utter nonsense about typing he is playing bad is the REASON HE IS BAD.

Then lets all have that real talk about what makes your team more likely to lose. When you pick kindred jungle never gank, build all offense and get out dmg by the enemy support THAT MAKES YOUR TEAM LOSE. When you are mid and you go 0/7/1 at 17 minutes THAT MAKES YOUR TEAM PLAY WORSE. So again lets stop pretending some person typing why you suck so much is the reason you are 0/8/0 and lets stop pretending that line of text is what makes your team more likely to lose when the reality is and the FACT is the guy who is 0/8/0 is what makes your team more likely to lose, and more likely to play bad.

So please riot if you really want to improve the quality of your game offer more tips like "if you fall behind in your lane play safe, players who lose lane badly are 87% more likely to cause their team to lose" and less "players who point out their teammate is doing terrible are more likely to lose 17%".

It's a team game. You win it through teamwork.

The person who sees one of their allies go 0/2/0 in lane and then flames them is at best not helping, at worst making that ally play worse or lose all desire to win (because they'd rather lose than see the flamer win.) Add to that the fact that when someone is playing, one player is wasting time typing when they could be doing something useful, while everyone else is wasting time by reading the flame instead of focusing on their game.

The person who sees one of their allies go 0/2/0 in lane and then sets out to help that ally out to stop them from dying again (e.g. offering to swap lanes, roaming to help give them an advantage, placing wards) is actually contributing to making that ally's game easier, helping them to turn around the disadvantage and actually win.

So, flaming them is at best neutral, at worst very negative. It never helps.

I definitely play worse when people on my team are harassing me.

It is funny but it has already been proven that Harassment can affect a persons state of mind. This isn't in debate this a is a fact proven countless times.

Deny the truth all you want. Believing something doesn't make it correct or a fact.

I've started 0/1/0 in a game as Nidalee mid. I played safe, but never received help from a jungler or my pre-made duo. The three randoms proceeded to flame me hardcore and I finished 0/12/0. We lost that game.

There was a second game where everyone on my team was playing poorly, but nobody flamed each other. Instead, we satyed positive, didn't call each other bad, and played to win. I started 0/7/0 as Top Irelia, but I finished 24/7/16 and we won that game.

These are my most two extreme cases. In general, though, teams that stay positive and don't harass each other win more games. There's literally no point in calling them trash, but offering advice on item builds, lane positioning, wave management, rotation and objective control can all help them fix that poor start. Not everybody is going to have the perfect game 100% of the time. You can't expect something from a stranger just because your last team was amazing, or because you've played amazingly well before. You have to understand that you're playing with humans, and humans are flawed, and errors are inevitable. What sets us apart as a species is the ability to pick each other up when it can't be done alone. It seems like we're starting to forget that, and instead want to kick the ones who have fallen down.

Harassment doesn't help anything. Playing poorly is inevitable. I've seen doublelift feed more times than I've seen my friend in bronze feed. It happens. What doesn't need to happen is harassment. You can't control your team, or the enemy team, but you can control your fingers, and your attitude.

I like how the poster is trying to justify harassment - usually harassment takes place after the first mistake, not 0/8/0.

Some people are more sensitive than others. Some will willingly troll and feed if you complain about their play just once.

Nothing good can ever come out of trash talking a teammate, so just don't do it.

Does attacking them make them play better?
No, it doesn't

Does it make you play better? I seriously doubt it.

Is it a massive distraction that has very little chance to produce a positive result? Yes, that is all it is.

If you are giving constructive criticism, that's a different story. If your contribution is "omg ur 0/4 plz stop feed" then there is no reason to bother typing it. They know they are feeding, no reason to go after them for it unless you have something helpful to say.

this thread - "Everybody on this earth can handle their fair share of insults from other people"

Please. Once you start thinking that then you have it ALL wrong.

I don't usually tilt easily, but there have been times when people harass or even worse if there is a group all harassing you that it becomes difficult to play, even after hitting mute

HamerDrunk3/27/2016, 8:28:04 PM2 votes

could be that you're team mate is bad but calling them names isn't going to improve there gameplay and only pisses everyone off and the most flamers i see start flaming at the first mistake not after 0 8 sso it could have been when he was 0 1 and you said somthing like ok np just play safe and jungler tries to gank he would be more likly to listen but if you say somthing like OMG fu noob rito pleaz this boosted thrash player makes them wanne go 0 8 or even worse go all in all the time just to prove that after 6 deaths they can get a kill

its not that i disagree that if you die at lvl 1 or 2 isn't shitty play or that getting served by a good player is all that fun but it isn't funny for the guy playing the lane neither if you do some sports games you play as a team you Always know just give it you're all and try to win encouraging not discouraging you're ally's is on of those aspects

The level of ignorance here is amazing.

Just when you think the gene pool couldn't get any worse..

May not always make them play worse, but it certainly doesn't help anyone.
