Who misses Ascension?

Without Dominon, we can't play it anymore. It was the only gamemode that made Dominion see any legitimate play and now I can never play Darude Sandstorm in League.

Ascension is a mode that'll be included in the rotating game mode thing coming soon, so you'll be able to play it eventually.

No snazzy icons from the Ascension event though.

Why can't we play it without Dominion? It was on a separate map based on the Crystal Scar.

Riot removed Crystal Scar, as Ascension was a "spin-off" of Dominion and because Dominion is removed, there is no longer map to play it on.

The map still exists despite us not having live access to it, so they can still use it for featured game modes. And indeed they are, in the polished up form of ascension currently on PBE.

I assumed the information of the Crystal Scar map data was wiped when they removed Dominion, so they wouldn't have the core map design as a basis anymore. If they still possess that data, then they can apply it to rotational queue, but with its own map design acting as the original, since the original Crystal Scar isn't being used anymore currently.

In the modern age of relatively cheap data storage, it's unlikely any company would straight up wipe data, since one never knows if they might eventually be able to salvage some work from it. I'm sure all the crystal scar stuff exists somewhere, probably with various redundant backup copies as well, it's just not hooked up with the live servers and not necessarily fully compatible with the latest champs, but still there.

The Ascension map used files from the Crystal Scar when it was made, but they are two completely separate maps. One does not require the other to function.

It is on the PBE right now and I literally just finished playing a game of it. It'll be back, and Dominion is likely as well.

That's great to hear! I loved playing Ascension! Too bad if they aren't adding any gamemode icons, the "Perfect Ascension Icon" was one of the best (if not the best) icons to earn playing a game mode, where it was actually difficult to get, and not just an icon where you could just grind games to get it eventually.

Yeah it's a nifty icon.

I kinda hope future modes/events have similar actual achievement icons, and not just 'spend money during the event' or 'play the event' icons.

It's nice to hear that icon getting some applause. Back then everyone absolutely hated the prospect of having to work hard at getting the icon, and said it ruined games. It actually didn't ruin games unless you had total scumbags on your team that were likely to afk in the first 5 minutes anyway!
