Reaction to the new autofill @riot

I have been playing League since late season four. I am currently a Diamond support main. The new autofill system is a good idea in theory, but it can't actually be effective in current situation. The main purpose of the new autofill system is to lessen queue times for everyone. First, this is not actually happening. Second, there is a cost to having these "lesser queue times".

  1. When people get into a champ select without the role they want, there is a good chance that they will dodge. Dodging as soon as they reach champ select wouldn't be the biggest time waster, but they don't dodge right away. They wait until the game is about to launch to see if anyone else will dodge for them. This wastes approximately 3-4 minutes and tend to happen at least 2-3 times before the game actually begins.
  2. For every action there is a reaction. By lessening queue times through autofill, people are annoyed when they do not get their roles. This makes the game less fun to play because when someone doesn't know how to play their role, it ruins the game for the whole team. Rather than a test of skill to see who wins, it is a test of who has the team with the least amount of autofills.

The solution to this problem is to revert back to the 2 role system. Although it may take a longer time to get to champ select, it will lead to less dodges and a greater overall experience.

You forgot the part where everyone getting autofilled is miserable and decides to take it out on the rest of the team.

Autofill is ruining ranked. People are getting filled into roles they dont know how to play and it equals a loss. I cannot understand how playing ranked in a role you dont understand is a good test of skill and fair to the team. Autofill is not working as intended. It should shorten queue time but in fact does the opposite. I usually get 5 dodges for each game I fully play. That's about 20 mins lost each time. People who don't get their roles will dodge almost every time.

Im unranked lvl 30 and really dont ever play norms or ranked. Can you explain the autofill stuff to me. The description Riot has here http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/competitive/ranked-updates-now-live#patch-autofill just confuses me.

Autofill enabled, designed to shorten que times.

Estimated wait time for position: 1:58

10:38 Later I'm still in que, having been in 4 or 5 dodged champ select.

Slow clap

Support main here. Never had to suffer long questions times. But let's apply some common sense. If you questions mid and have to wait 20 min for a group what's the problem? You're getting your role. If a shorter wait time was more important you'd play another role. People do not want to support. They'd rather wait longer than everyone else. Let them. Stop forcing them I to a role they do the want to be in.

Bottom line - no one asked to be auto filled. There is a fill option for those who want it. Stop forcing it on people. They can select fill on their own if they want shorter wait times.

Well stated argument. Auto-fill needs to go away. I'm perfectly happy waiting an extra few minutes for my selected roles and for the rest of my team to have theirs.

There are only 5 roles, 2 of them (about half of the possible roles) were selected by the player. How hard is it for match making to NOT put the player into the roles that were actually picked?

If a player wanted to fill, just make it an option. Queue times were only about 3 minutes before (in gold at least).
