@Riot remember us when making changes

A lot of people including riot tend to forget , or know nothing about , the origins of this style of MOBA. More then a decade ago a user made a plug-in for Warcraft 3 called Defence of the Ancients(Dota). This mode introduced the Warcraft players to a new style of play that was fun and totally addictive. A whole new sub culture developed around this plug-in and out of that sub culture came a new genre of gaming.

Before all of the big tournaments , fancy graphics , and analysis of every last detail of game play people came flocking to DotA for one simple reason , it was fun. I understand riot is a business out to make money but you must consider what made you all of the money in first place was the average player who came to play League to have fun. We came. We had fun. We bought skins. You got rich. We both went home happy. Keeping the game fun for the average player really ties into the balance challenges.

One of the biggest let downs of this game is the meta enforcing at the professional level. Riot really does their best to ensure that each role only has a handful of viable options. Besides lack of diversity the meta enforcing creates a hostile environment for people who want to use different strategies. Maybe you want to duo top with no jungle or 1 top 1 bot 3 mid or any other combination roles and lanes you can think of. Immediately upon stepping out of the current meta you are met with name calling and threats of being reported simply because you didn't play in a cookie cutter stream lined fashion. This really limits character choice as most people are now so afraid of upsetting their team mates and being stuck in a never ending cycle of dodges they just go with the flow.

The over buffed jungle minions and Viegar blunder are two perfect examples of Riots enforcing high level game play and designing the game around a small handful of players. Making a game balanced around the 1% while ignoring the 99% will eventually leave you with just that 1% player base and no money in your pockets. I'm not saying you should make extreme casual balance changes or extreme balance changes for the pros but somewhere in the middle there is sure to be a happy medium but overall when making the changes remember us the ones who came for fun. We are the ones who made the game and we will be the ones to break it.

P.S. buff Viegar

One of the biggest let downs of this game is the meta enforcing at the professional level. Riot really does their best to ensure that each role only has a handful of viable options.

Riot tries pretty hard to go the other way, but the nature of the game encourages spamming of whatever champion is the best. Riot is continually nerfing whatever the best things are, and the result is simply new best things, not a wide meta. You'll see it in pro DotA too. Both games tunnel similarly hard on their top 10 picks.

Besides lack of diversity the meta enforcing creates a hostile environment for people who want to use different strategies. Maybe you want to duo top with no jungle or 1 top 1 bot 3 mid or any other combination roles and lanes you can think of.

Lane diversity has never been better than it is today. It's viable to 2v2 bot, 2v2 top, 2v1 bot/top, 2v1 mid/bot, 2v0, or 4v0 at a competitive level. That simply wasn't true in the early seasons.

Here League doesn't have the strategic variety DotA does, but it's come a long way from season 2, where bruiser top, mage mid, adc/support bot, tanky support jungler was the only correct way to play.

This is about the community being unwilling to try new things, not the game design. Properly played 2v1 lanes would absolutely wreck in solo queue; people just aren't willing to spend the effort to learn how to play that way.

People aren't willing to try new things because they get blasted by the community for stepping out of the meta box. Riot has done everything they could to enforce this. The entire game now revolves around the LCS the average player be damned. When the fun stops we stop and the money goes with us. You can ride the Riot train all day long and defend every poor decision they make at the end of the day they are only killing this game slowly.

What has Riot done to enforce 2v2 lanes?

The entire game now revolves around the LCS the average player be damned.

If that's true, why don't we play 2v1 lanes in solo queue?

You can ride the Riot train all day long and defend every poor decision they make at the end of the day they are only killing this game slowly.

I don't know what Riot decision I am allegedly defending. I think they make plenty of poor decisions. For example, the recent +100 gold cost on machete upgrades was just stupid.

My position is simple: the community is to blame for the stagnant meta in solo queue. The game supports many ways to play. We collectively choose to play only one way.

Riot enforces the meta every patch. Remember when you couldn't ward at the start of the game in season 4. Players in the LCS started by camping the gold monster buff then going 4 v 0 in one lane to rush it down. Riot immediately withdrew the ward nerf in order to get players back into the old style of laning.

The jungle camp buff was a way to eliminate soft junglers such markmens from jungling. Leaving us with only bruisers. Tank jungle is till possible but so slow you will fall behind if you get counter jungeled by a bruiser. Once again soft junglers came along a new style of non meta game play and riot quickly came in to make changes to ensure those soft players get back into lanes.

Also riots jury system works against having 2v1 lanes on top or mid. Step out the meta and players will cry troll and report you. Players judging the tribunal will consider you guilty for not following the meta. I know because I participate in the tribunal. Riot on one hand says meta breaking isn't reportable but on the other doesn't stop the tribunal from punishing people for meta breaking.

Edit:

P.S. The tribunal in general is a horrible idea. It gives power to easily offended whiny children. I've seen so many cases where players say one or two bad words and they receive bans. The tribunal is like letting the spoiled child take over the household.

Well yeah, thats because it was retarded. They're not enforcing the meta, they're enforcing the game. Part of the game is the laning phase. The tower rush strategy completely ignored that.

The jungle camp buff was a way to eliminate soft junglers such markmens from jungling.

They can still jungle. They just have to take damage like the rest of us now.

Tank jungle is till possible but so slow you will fall behind if you get counter jungeled by a bruiser.

That's because most tank junglers are better at ganking than clearing. Nautilus, Maokai, Amumu, Sej, etc, all have very strong ganks.

Also riots jury system works against having 2v1 lanes on top or mid. Step out the meta and players will cry troll and report you. Players judging the tribunal will consider you guilty for not following the meta.

Not really. I was in the Tribunal too. The main issue is intent. Are you doing 2v1 because you think it will work, or because you want to fuck around and try something? Is it normals, or ranked? Who are you trying it as? There are a lot of factors. Just going 2v1 isn't worthy of a punishment on its own. Though it sounds like you think it does.

The tribunal isn't even back yet as far as I know they still have that damn auto report system which is even worse. That gives whiny players even more power. I wish they would remove the report system high light the ignore button and for the rest of the trolls just ignore them. People still haven't learned trolls just feed of the reaction. Ignore them and don't react they get bored quickly and will go away.

Bruisers in general have better ganks. WW suppress and speed boost , Lees sins gap closer and engage/disengage and xhin xaos gap closer and knock up , all of this combined with superior damage. The only exception is Sej who is high tank and high damage with lots of CC. The only reason Sej still lives on is because she's not played much in the LCS. She does good in a few round of LCS and she gets the nerf bat.

Soft players can't realistically jungle now. The damage out put is way to high and armour way to thick on neutral monsters. You can do the kite thing but you'll spend too long on one camp.

You can still 4v0. It's just no longer the obviously best strategy.

That's good balance in my book. Exactly what we should want from Riot.

Oh please. TF jungle was exploiting a terrible game mechanic that would have inevitably led to ranged junglers being the obviously best junglers. Junglers bamboozling the monsters to run back and forth never attacking is just dumb, and balancing around that is even dumber.

We have never had 2v1 lanes and the tribunal in session at the same time. I know of only one instance in which a player was punished by the tribunal solely for breaking the meta. One. In how many years of cases?

Even if the Tribunal were to enforce the meta, that is still the players deciding that 2v1 lanes are bad, not Riot.

"After they announced that Veigar buffs were going to happen, Korea discovered that Veigar is actually super handy for disengage comps. A buffed Veigar would have become a 100% pick/ban support, and they want him to be a 0% pick rate support because he doesn't create the gameplay they like."

Do you remember saying this on another thread or where you too high on drugs ? You say here Riot doesn't enforce a meta but on another thread you are stating they make changes to enforce a meta.

How does it feel to be stuck in a paradox ?

SmokingPuffin1 votes

"support Veigar" isn't a meta. Nerfing support Veigar was absolutely the correct thing to do. Veigar E was a stupid button that warped the game in ways that weren't fun to watch or play.

A "disengage comp" is a meta, but those are still viable.

I WILL TROLL YOU1 votes

He doesn't create the gameplay they like. You said it yourself just admit that riot is trying to create a certain style of meta/gameplay (choose your word) that revolves around the LCS.

I never said support vieg was a meta but he was ruining the high mobility/disengage bot lanes duos. Instead of players finding a way to respond riot just swooped down to restore the meta.

I still don't understand how you can actively argue riot doesn't enforce a gameplay style in one post but in another argue they do enforce it. You've been busted just give it up :P

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Meta and gameplay are not the same thing.

For example, Old Tristana didn't create the gameplay Riot likes. Too safe and too self-sufficient in the lategame. They reworked her to have less range and more desire to jump on people. This is an example of enforcing healthy gameplay, with lots of interaction and opportunity for counterplay. It is not an example of enforcing a meta.

Back on Veigar, they don't have anything against disengage as a strategy. They don't like Veigar's reliable long-ranged stun. Riot aggressively polices individual champion designs for healthy gameplay patterns, which approximately means ability to outplay and be outplayed. Veigar didn't have this -- it's up to him whether the stun hits or misses; the opposing player has little to say about it.

If riot was serous aboutkilling the ADC + support meta they would remove the boost to Exp when it is being shard and make support items increase exp gained by say 35% when the owner is a lower level then nearby allies. This would make the current support rle into more of a roaming role.
