Can easily farm, engage, disengage, and survive her post 6 all in.
Poke with Q, snowball hard af, more useful overall for roaming
Lane sustain with Q, post level 6 can straight up dive her.
Q harass, shield her burst, devour her is she tries to escape.
I find Darius and Garen work pretty well.
Gnar is a fun skill matchup, but I don't think any champion really completely stomps Riven except for maybe Poppy (but I haven't tried her).
Poppy w is pretty great against her. Maokai out sustains her and can farm safely. Fiora is purely a skill matchup.
darius teemo pantheon the best counters. and dont say riven can shit on teemo because thats not true. play the lane riven vs teemo and u will end up down 40+ cs and a tower in 7 mins.
Top lane Karthus can just kite her to oblivion. Optimal build is probably either GLP (for more slows) or RoA. If she tries to initiate, turn on E and drop a wall on her. He's also one of the few champs who can still abuse exhaust if you don't want to take TP for whatever reason.
He beats riven so hard. You out poke her, you out farm her, you out damage her. The only time you have to be careful against her is when she is level 6-8. After those 2 levels you can easily 1v1 her the rest of the game.
Mordekaiser. Ho lee shit. He absolutely destroys Riven, definitely one of her best counters IMO.

I know this is totally not meta, but in my experience: 
absolutely destroys her because of the massive 650 range autos. She literally can't farm from level 1 onward (start E for extra safety).

You can poke her all day with E she can ofc use her mobility to avoid it and then you have a window to fk her up is that simple, she either eats the poke or she doges it with spell and gets clobbered
just completely shits on her btw she can't fight you early as your early allin is much stronger and you have sustain while she doesn't
too shits on her really hard with his attackspeed slow grab some extra's with FH and wardens mail and she wont be able to combo at all anymore and you can steal her movementspeed
Garen. I have like a 100% winrate on Garen in ranked because the only time I play him is against Riven.
Mordekaiser is by far one of Riven's hardest counters without being a complete early-game focused cheese pick. He scales just as well as her and Riven's play style is always going to work against her when facing a Mordekaiser.
Just pick a tank and buy armor. Nothing she can do.
Pretty much anyone. It's a skill match up most the time. If you verse a good riven it can be tough but..... there not a ton of them. Most Rivens laughable to play against.
Nasus destroys her post-6/7/first back.
Below Plat, Garen works pretty well.
