I vote in favor of teemo. Sion and Darius just aren't good unless the player your fighting Have no understanding of that champion. Maokai is pretty safe with his ultimate. Malphite is meh they probably wouldn't die a lot either, but He doesn't offer anything to learn playing him well a teemo teach's vision and using bushes to become better which can effect them learning other roles.
My 'crap got autofilled' Top pick (which is my worst role and happened twice):
!
He has no engage or great stats, but he's so good shutting down your oppnent. Every time those Riven, Fiora, Camile mains trying to engage, snowballl to their face. Everytime you lost a trade Q. If you can't win your lane consistendly, just forbid your opoonent to do this as well. xD
That's why I'd recommend his as a beginner Champ as well to understand the Top-dynamics.
Maokai, for sure, very basic mechanics and rotations reliant (rotations are when you move around the map accordingly to what's happening/your chances are).
Build 2 doran's ring to have enough damage to kill minions and mana sustain, rush a bami's cinder and then the resistances you need against your matchup, then cooldown reduction to spam spells over an over, after lv7 just oneshot the wave, keep pushing and if you can't kill your opponent/turret go roam and try to accomplish something. Also watch dyrus, it's 99% of what you need to be an excellent top laner.

Also a BIG and i can't stress it enough BIG, part of being a top laner (even if this applies to all roles and the game in general) is to know wave management, as by simply not knowing this you can shoot yourself in the foot and not even notice it.
