Any advice for carrying low elo games as mid or top?

I'm currently in Bronze 1 and even though I win lane a lot, I don't really know how to transfer that into a victory for my whole team. Do I need to do nothing but roam after i get a couple of kills? Should I just stay in my lane and farm the whole game? What should I do?

In my experience, low ELO games often turn into what are essentially ARAM games; everybody will randomly group up around an objective and kind of siege it until someone gets caught and dies. Champions who tend to excel in these situations are those who can waveclear safely, catch targets and protect their allies.

I'd recommend trying some of the following champions due to this: Ahri Anivia Lux Morgana Ziggs Varus Veigar Zyra Viktor

Personally, my advice would be to play a character with flexible builds. One that can be built glass cannon and carry, or can be built a bit more tanky and still hold their own.

Diana for instance

  • You can build her glass cannon and lurk on the edge of fights to pop the enemy carries.
  • You can build her AP Bruiser With AP/Defensive items, and serve as an Off-tank or an extra engage
  • You can build her with AP/AS and be a split push monster

There's plenty of champs with different options like that(And plenty more options for Diana in the right situation). Playing a champ that can fit whatever needs your team has helps a lot, because you're not as reliant on your team to do what you need done. Need damage? Build that way. Need engage? Build that way. Need Peel? Build for it. There's tons of different interesting items. Picking a champ that can reliably use a large portion of them leaves you open to so many different options.

That's just my opinion, anyway.

Focus on objectives if you arent already. Kills are nice and all but inhib is nicer

Just got to Silver as a Mid/Top player. Yes roaming is the key. However, roam ONLY when you have pressure and when you're not behind. As a mid laner, your priorities are in this order, get as much CS as possible, don't die, then roam. Now it's important you understand what I mean by pressure. It's simple, push your lane before you roam. This keeps pressure on the enemy mid laner. He has a choice, either follow you and lose CS or stay in lane to relieve the pressure by pushing back the lane. I always roam as a mid laner if I'm not behind in CS, didn't die and am able to push the lane. Also, you should roam bot 9 times out of 10 since it's the lane that always feeds. Roaming to kill the jungler in his own jungle is a nice tactic too that no one expects. The jungler is usually underleveled in the early game.

People don't farm well at low elos. If you refine your CSing to be consistently really good (at least 75@10min, ideally 85@10min), you will be going into every game with a massive gold advantage, which will help you win lane and carry since you will be stronger than everyone else. Remember that a kill (300gold) is only equal to about 13 cs.

People are always fighting at this elo. Unless you are simultaneously split pushing towers at the time your team is fighting somewhere else and you think you can get multiple towers or even an inhib and you wont lose the game if your team loses the teamfight, it is almost always best to be aware of everything your team is doing and if they are fighting, even if it seems like a bad fight or engage or there is seemingly no reason why they are fighting, which there actually isn't a lot of the time, it is best to be there fighting with them. You never want to be that guy who is trying to defend a inhibitor turret solo against four players of the enemy team because he didn't show up to a team fight on time that happened 20 seconds earlier.

If you win the teamfight, your team gets a bunch of gold and and opportunity at neutral objectives or enemy structures.

If you lose the team fight, THE ENEMY TEAM gets a bunch of gold and an opportunity at neutral objectives or YOUR structures.

You ever watch LCS and notice that whenever ANYONE starts a fight EVERYONE else shows up within seconds? This is good to do. If you see fighting happening or better yet, if you suspect fighting IS ABOUT to happen, then stop whatever you are doing and go there. You are always stronger together. And this also raises morale for your team, which is surprisingly important especially at low elo.

I play mid a lot. minion wave management is really important. pushing a wave into your enemy's tower will make it bounce back and by this I mean that if left alone the enemy minion wave will push itself into your tower in about a minute and a half; and the cycle will repeat. use this minute and a half to recall and end up back in lane BEFORE the big enemy minion wave goes under your tower to get that CS. If you catch it right, you can FREEZE the minion wave. By freeze I mean you can make the allied and enemy minion wave meet at a location in the lane that is close to your tower but not actually under it so you can farm in a position that is safe from enemy aggression from your enemy laner and the enemy Jungler.

If your enemy laner tries to freeze a lane against you, DO NOT HESITATE! Do one of two things: roam immediately OR use your wave clear abilities to make the minion wave crash into turret which will make it bounce back to your side or the lane; you may want to recall and buy items after doing either of these things. This goes for all players INCLUDING YOUR ENEMY! So be very aware when freezing a lane against your opponent as THEY MAY TRY TO ROAM. NEVER freeze a lane against champions that love to roam (LB Katarina talon zed etc); this can lose you an entire game and it will certainly drastically lower the morale and effectiveness of you team.
