Does Riot hate AP items and champs?

All these AD items and champs getting love, while almost ALL of the AP items get less stats and higher costs. Like really, why is this? AD champs will just snowball and with the items, can snowball even harder. Can someone justify this?

Increasing AP item costs almost 100% across the board is a lazy way of nerfing mages that doesn't involve individually tuning champions.

I usually have to wait until I get in a match to be pissed off but I didn't even log in yet and I'm already in a bad mood.

Actually playing Ahri has felt stronger than before the patch.

SoMNia11/12/2015, 9:11:00 AM5 votes

Most of their stats have actually stayed the same, and a couple were even buffed. In fact, the only one that did get its stats nerfed was Seeker's Armguard/Zhonya's Hourglass. Yes, the cost went up. And everyone has more gold, so... The category of items that mostly had their stats nerfed and costs increased was actually AD items. Pretty much backwards from what you're saying here.

Some mages are stronger than ever, it's just people like you unwilling to adapt and you are still playing with season 5 mindset.

Meserion11/12/2015, 1:41:32 PM3 votes

Mages as a whole have never been op or 'meta'. They have had a role to play, to be sure; they had heavy crowd control with very high burst. That was what they where for mostly. With a few exceptions like Fizz and Ekko and most mages have been pretty balanced with clearly definied weaknesses.

Yes you could focus them down and YES they would die, not teleport away (unless you where Kassadin) with some tp bullcrap. Mages where balanced mostly in s5, why would they screw up what some might call a perfect balance for mages?

Frigid Ice Storm11/12/2015, 3:29:11 AM3 votes

Cause AP people had their time in Season 5 with all the buffs to Rylai's scepter, Liandry's, Rabaddon's, now its time for us AD folks to have some fun and fk you little mages up :D

I remember when a Veigar ulted me and one shot me then said " get good noob". Now I'll have death's dance and be able to survive that while healing up 300 per hit :)

Honestly, i haven't really seen a decrease in AP champions.

I can understand in what direction riot wants to go with mages. The problem was before that mages ramped up in damage to quickly while still providing a lot of utility. It wasn't really logical that burst damage would outdamage sustain damage in the lategame. This is what actualy is nerfed:

  • Sustain DPS mages
  • Zoning mages
  • AD casters
  • Tanks

This is the reason why you suddenly see poke mages like Ziggs & Xerath again. They basicly shift the meta with this change. What they buffed is another story:

  • Marksmen
  • Crit champions

I don't understand why people are saying AP champions are useless now, like Mages. Sure a lot of them have always been outclassed but not all Mages are useless. Some like Xerath can still abuse having very high range that makes them difficult for even AD champions like Caitlyn to handle, and champions like Twisted Fate have more CC than most AD champions I can think of, there's also AP champions like Lulu and Orianna who have more utility than any AD assassin, marksman, bruiser, etc in the game that will always be viable.

I don't think that all AP champions are strong or viable but I do think a lot of them are just fine, though I think nerfing all AP items was a stupid idea and seemed really random.

No. No I'm done. Fuck this.

Does it suck that all the AP items got their increase price? Yes. Does it suck that mana pot removal hurt mages? Yes. Do these new masteries have problems with mages? Honestly I think people are just too used to 21/9 masteries that they're bitching too much about the change.

You know what this game has? A LOT OF GOOD AP ITEMS. You got ways to bypass base resistance item 3135 item 3020. Ways to build armor and AP item 3157 item 3025, ways to build MR and AP item 3001 item 3174, ways to increase your mana pool by spamming spells item 3070 and a not shit item that works well based on your mana item 3003. And also item 3089 because who doesn't want 35% more AP?

You know what AD had? DAMAGE. Attack speed, crit, straight damage, thats all they fucking had. ADC weren't suppose to build ARMOR because of all the FUCKING damage they needed to get to be relevant. Let them have their moment.

And for the record, this is temporary. Stop treating it like it is a goddamn permanent thing. Mages will be buffed (Though really they aren't nerfed, just indirectly opposed by AD) and they will get nice things.

I need to get off these forums. You all make me want to kick a poro. I probably wouldn't though, just kick the asshole next to it. Which is probably me.

I feel like Riot hates Karthus especially because he hasn't gotten any changes since a couple of bugfixes and a chroma pack, and that was a few months ago :(

GIVE THE LICH SOME LOVE PLEASE item 3070Karthus

At some point people have to realize that the balance team probably plays this game, and like everyone has biased.

They may not have an all encompasing desire for ALL THINGS to be equal.

Its entirely possible that they have a majority that sees things one way, and favors certain playstyles and champ types.

If you worked on the balance team, whould you "balance" your favorite champ just based on some numbers from the system? Especialy if you were one of the people who gave input on a rework on that champ? Maybe you would... Can you have that much faith in everyone?

This is what "Riot" wants for the game, or at least the people who "balance" the game as it is right now, and I can only assume that the people will have to change that "balance" the game before the gamescape changes.

*EDIT: Also another thing Iv mentioned before, flavor of the month champs bring in money from people who spend RP to get champs and skins for FOTM champs.... So, Riot buffed AD to sell AD champs, and skins, because people must have been buying AP champs and skins... then then slowdown, time to bring in the cash with a FOTM refocus.

Simple economics really.

CasterGilgamesh11/13/2015, 2:32:10 AM1 votes

riot hates support the most actually.

LordGeovanni11/13/2015, 12:28:17 AM1 votes

not as much as they hate tanks and fighters

Hard Penetrator11/12/2015, 11:40:36 AM1 votes

Just few months ago Riot heavily buffed most ap champions with better build path and utility. APC haven't had longer period of weaknesses than maybe Kha/Zed mid times (for a different reason than them being weak anyway).

I don't know about apc, but Riot for sure don't love long time players. Things they come up with this preseason are straight up terrible aside of few minor changes they could easily patch.
