So I was in a game with a Kayle ADC (we won) but that's not the point I'm trying to make. Our Kayle did great, I got her fed and whatnot. What I'm confused about... why is everyone saying she's OP or new meta?
I used to ADC with her in like season 2/3 and max her E first. I used to do this all the time. Why is it such a big deal NOW in season 5? Is she super broken now...?

She's not, Id love to see a Caitlyn/Graves lane against her, she'd get owned.
I wouldn't go as far as to say new META but its viable...I used to run it during the same time frame as you and even still mess with it once in a while. But honestly, until you get to really high ELO, anything is viable if you have the mechanics.
I haven't seen this coming back as an "op" thing yet. She ate some really rough ratio nerfs (i think early last season or late s3)
