understanding Matchmaking

I have played this game for many years and I have noticed with my own and my fellow combatants some trends in solo que ranked match making.

  1. I won more when I do not login for a few days.

  2. After 3 wins in a row if I continue to play back to back games on a singular account. I get matched up with rage quitters, cry babies and the absolute worst, the woke players that don't understand what sarcasm is.

  3. If I have a good game for instance 10+ kills and 3 or less deaths with plenty of assists and lots of objectives.

The following game I get punished it feels like. I have either been matched up with players much higher than myself that I don't think that I am ready for or I have an impossibly difficult team to carry. Or what's worse is when my teammates grab the carries and don't follow up when I engage a team fight.

  1. Duo que with teammates I notice similar trends while doing a duo. If my brother or one of my friends and myself win 3 games in a row the 4th game is impossibly rough with 1 negative teammate.

Also when I duo with the same people the games start to become impossible to win because the game generates a duo Elo.

  1. While duoing with new friends I have a much higher success rate. And I climb a lot faster. Because we have not built up a duo Elo yet. But after a while I mean let's say about 10 wins and 3 losses later. We get that duo elo problem.

I don't feel like when I'm on a win spree or a losing spree that I am playing all that differently. I feel like the matchmaking has gambling elements.

  1. So if I could start over or what I might do in the future. Is have 2 accounts. Play a few ranked games on each, one day a week and then stay off for a few days.

And when I find good teammates that I can play well with I will friend them and get that fresh duo Elo.

  1. The verdict the more you play the game for long periods at a time the more the matchmaking punishes you. Also the more you play with the same people the more the matchmaking punishes you.

So the game doesn't really match you up by rank properly it just does weird little tweaks.

I view the matchmaking like gambling. The house might let you win a few fair games. Just to take all your winnings on the next few rounds. Leaving you the desire to play more to get back what you have lost.

Please let me know of your experiences with matchmaking is it similar or have you had different experiences? What helps you win or lose?

For some reason the numbering doesn't save properly it keeps going back to 1. A lot ☹️.

Look at these 2 games

Almost no difference except my role. My scores are similar, my builds are both AP focused, my rune page is the same.

Wanna know what the difference was?

The second game is bot lane Swain and Lucian top, not the other way around.

The second game had 3 people arguing and bitching and moaning, and it was after a 3 game win streak.

So some of the things you are experiencing are the following:

Riot has a smurf detection function. The way this works is when you win 3 or 4 consecutive games, the system starts to consider you as a smurf. What happens is the following game will have alternative match making criteria. In this scenario, you are more likely to match against smurfing players. What you "could" be experiencing on your team are a couple things. 1.) players that were also smurf detected but in reality only won consecutive games out of luck. 2.) Tilted players because they got shutdown from their win-streak the game before or a previous game.

In terms of duo queuing, there is indeed a penalty function for duos in the ranked solo duo queue. On top of being more likely to match against other duos, it can also throw off the matchmaking regardless of how close you and your duo are in rank which may cause the enemy team to have a slightly stronger composition of players.

Unrelated factors include: Also up until about...hmm maybe the start of season 8ish... riot freely advertised on their page though they no longer do now, (funny) your honor level in some way impacted your match making. This may or may not be necessarily related to the specific examples you have given but i figured you like the insight.

Finally, there are also the cases of autofills and playing at a low throughput time (e.g 5am est) that can also affect matchmaking.
