I know this has been asked before, but how do I beat fiora? She seems to win the laning phase because of her bursty damage and can own in teamfights. Once she build lifesteal I can't do anything...any thoughts?

How to end fiora's life

rude.

I know this has been asked before, but how do I beat fiora?

There's 2 main things you need to know to deal with Fiora.

  1. LoL isn't a 1v1 game. All champions are not equally balanced around their 1v1 capacities like fighter games. Champions in LoL are balanced around their capacity to win the game - which involves the enemy Nexus falling in some way. Some champions accomplish this through amazing team-fight potential, some from a dominant early game, some from split-pushing and back dooring, some from starting fights, some from finishing fights. Low-kill, low-damage, high-CC champions actually tend to dominate win-rate charts.

  2. Champions are balanced aroudn their performance over the course of a game, they aren't all kept at an even power level and power progression through the course of a game. Some champions are early game, some late game, some mid game.

So with Fiora - Fiora's end-game is picking a lot of 1v1 fights. She's a solid duelist compared to most champions, and will probably win a 1v1 vs. any champion that isn't also flagged as a Fighter. Fiora also scales very well into late-game, which does a decent amount at covering her weaknesses in 4~6 major item build situations.

With that in mind: don't duel Fiora, don't focus on end-game builds to stop her.

What Fiora's weak at is doing anything besides 1v1 duels. You don't have to win lane by killing the enemy champion. You can simply get more CS, poke them down so they have to keep going back, zone them away from minions with some AoE, fast-push waves so they're stuck under their tower while you roam. Fiora's wave clear is awful. She has no ranged harass at all, she has no AoE. The only thing she can do in lane is force a 1v1. Use any strategy beyond that and she's not going to have a good time in lane, her strengths there are the exact same deal as Poppy.

And if you do want to force 1v1 fights (you're lanning as a fighter), the counter-build items you want to focus on are early-game, cheap, lanning phase items. That's where Fiora can rapidly sink in a sink or swim environment. And because basically all of Fiora's damage counts as both physical and auto-attack based, Ninja Tabi and Warden's Mail are very effective at targeting her damage, giving as close to 100% effeciency as you can get vs. any champion. Thornmail, Randuin's Omen, and Sunfire Cape are also very effective itemization choices against her, as Thornmail basically removes all of her 1v1 kill pressure until she has a major life steal and %armor penetration item, Sunfire punishes melee auto-attackers pretty hard, and Omen is, or at least has been, a rather solid, multi-purpose tank item.

What you don't want to do is try beating Fiora with an offensive race. She scales exceptionally well with damage, and will beat anyone save maybe Tryndamere or Riven in a damage race. What Fiora doesn't scale with at all is defense. A lot of fighters do actually scale fairly well with defense. Fighter/tanks usually have such hybridized damage they still have solid kill potential when rushing defense, where Fiora is only going to be able to counter-build ~50% of their damage, best-case scenario for her.

anyways - just like Irelia, Vayne, and Jax, you beat Fiora by keeping her down by exploiting her weak early game. Also, you try sticking with your team. Not 5v1 deals, but 5v5 - Fiora's ult gives her some team-fight pressence, but she's not the same force within team-fights as most mages, marksman, tanks, or supports. She's considerably better dueling than team-fighting.

She's a real pain, but she is AA reliant. My best bet would be Jax. You can dodge her ult!

Alistar Chogath Darius DrMundo Garen Gnar Irelia Jayce Malphite Mordekaiser Renekton Trundle XinZhao

all of these champs can do really well against Fiora in top lane

Alistar - She engages on you, just pulverize, AA, Headbutt. You will out damage her unless you were slow on it and it gets her off of you. Pretty easy to farm, just don't push the lane unless she leaves it. And if you get ahead you can literally stomp her hard and make her farming impossible

Chogath - pre-6 just focus on farming, freeze your lane and sustain through last hitting. Post 6 if you can get a gank you can burst her with your silence before she even has time to ult. You get ahead and Fiora is worthless and Cho is amazing late game

Darius - Don't push lane, if she engages, you can out damage her (don't use E to engage, let her engage on you) when she tries to Q, AA, E, and back off, you can use E to force her back in and keep doing damage. Your bleed beats her sustain if you can try to keep a stack on her (not hard if she is consistently trying to last hit) If you hit 6 first you can force an exchange and easily kill her with your ult.

DrMundo - just sustain and farm, It is highly unlikely Fiora will ever kill you if you play smart and you can zone her off hers if you land cleavers (those stupid things hurt early)

Garen - Fiora engaged? Hit w and E and either spin away or towards her. easily bait her parry with Q. Keep stuff warded and push her into tower repeatedly. Make sure you keep your farm up, make sure you level faster than her, make sure you dont get caught by her jungler (Q's speed boost is generally enough to keep safe from a gank)...I hate Garen so much as Fiora -.-

Gnar - A lot of people say Fiora beats Gnar, I highly disagree. Harass with Q if she goes to CS, she either takes free damage to get the cs or she misses it. She tries to engage you can just hop away. you can easily farm since you are ranged. The only thing you have to worry about is when you transform. If Fiora is even slightly ahead she can take advantage of it, but if you have been harassing her properly, she cant engage or she risks dying.

Irelia - Fiora jumps on you, oh lets just E to stun, pop W and auto a few times, then Q onto a low health minion to create a little space. I'll rush Sheen and some armor, and never miss a last hit because Q op.

Jayce - Long range ridiculous damage poke, and can out burst her if he catches her on engage. Her ult does make post 6 slightly harder but generally you can just assert lane dominance and not have to worry about it.

Malphite His shield, his natural tankyness. If fiora even has a hope of winning this lane it is you messing up early. You just become stupid hard to kill for her, and Malphite is awesome in team fights.

Mordekaiser - I have only had this matchup 1 time as Fiora against Mordekaiser. He hard out traded me any time I went to engage, By the time we hit 6 he was just slightly ahead but he easily killed me and just went ham on me any time I stepped into lane after that. Jungler tried to help, he just killed me and my ghost killed the jungle while Morde laughed and walked away q_q

Renekton - I dont even feel the need to explain why Renekton is a hard matchup for just about any melee champ. Fiora does beat him late game for team fights, but the lane is so hard for Fiora it is almost impossible to reach that late game power

Trundle - He out sustains Fiora and you can not engage on him because he will out trade you and it is hard to get him off. Freeze the lane, and if she does push the lane a jungle gank will put this in your favor easily.

XinZhao - He doesn't out sustain her, but he is great at trading with her. Let Fiora engage and do not hesitate to immediately trade back. She is likely going to max W against you for reduced CD, you can bait it with your E, back off and when it is down go back in for more damage.

Always ping if she is MIA and keep things warded. If she cant beat you in lane odds are she will try to roam and make plays elsewhere. She scales off gold...deny her farm and outscale her because of it. She relies on AA's and has no waveclear pre tiamat, so engaging on you she will be taking minion damage on top of whatever you trade back. Her dash is linear so you can take advantage of that as well with skill shots/CC.
