Current State of Wards
I recently decided to play this game again, after not playing since Preseason, and I felt this as soon as I finished my first match.
This might sound like a rant, but am I the only person who doesn't like wards in their current state? My issue is that it feels (IMO) like an over complicated mess of a system, and the one thing I really wish Riot would revert to the older seasons.
Primarily, I would like to address the warding totem. This item came out as a way to create an incentive for non-supports to ward, and make the whole process a team effort. While I like the concept, I feel like what kills this item is the unreliability. At level 1, the ward has a cooldown 3x as long as the duration. This makes it really difficult to use the ward properly in terms of vision control, and to stay away from jungle ganks, and considering their current effectiveness, its a major issue. At least when Stealth Wards were an item, yes they cost money, but they were a reliable way of more or less staying safe from jungle ganks, but now, you have to rely on the control ward, which can be easily destroyed by the enemy laner anyway.
If there is any change to wards I like, it was the introduction of the sightstone. It was an interesting way to give supports the option to have a way to ward without needing to fill up their inventory with wards, and for what it does, its a unique and fun way to deal with warding.
This post might seem shallow, but this is an issue I have with the game that I can't exactly explain. At least in my opinion, wards are currently mechanic that feels wrong and unintuitive, but I can't exactly pinpoint what it is. Anyway, do you guys like the current state of wards, I am really interested in what the community thinks of them.
