Why do you keep patching the game?

TL:DR: Im sick and tired of the recent endless stream of unnecessary bad patches and want to play the LoL i fell in love with.

Full post: I am at a loss here. I see Rito acting out one of my pet peev's.

Have you ever owned a gaming server of any kind? Or better, been close or friendly with the owners of a server?

Then you will know what im talking about here. Or will at least be able to relate. More often than not everything starts out great for a while. It all runs smoothly and is quite enjoyable to play on. Word of mouth passes and the enjoyable server grows in both popularity and players. Everything is great for quite a while. However the owners get quite bored of just administering the server. They get tired of just being a watchful eye and on top of that are forever listening to peoples suggestions and more so.. complaints. (Now even if a server is going from strength to strength and is forever gaining popularity, you are always going to have a few people complaining. That is just a element of owning a server. Im not saying ignore them.. not at all. However the owner should take what they say with a grain of salt unless their complaint carries genuine weight). HOWEVER... back to my point. This all becomes a bit much for a bored owner/admin. Their bored, idle minds get the better of them.... so they start changing things to try and "improve" the server. At the start its minor things. improve this slightly.... better script here... fix a bug there... etc etc... and nobody really complains because its not ruining anything for the players experience. Its still the great server that the players enjoy. Eventually though the changes become a bit larger. They begin to have a greater impact. The owners begins to make changes to pander to a minorities complaints,.. rather than keeping the winning formula that is enjoyed by the majority. Suddenly it starts driving away regulars who don't recognize the server they fell in love with. The changes begin to make such a impact that the players no longer enjoy the server anymore. This keeps going and going until the servers popularity drops exponentially... and if another server times it right many migrate over.

This sadly is a case with a lot of servers... DayZ mod... Battlefield... It also happens with websites. Just look at Bebo or Myspace.

You are probably wondering why i am talking about this and how it relates to the topic at hand... Well this is how League feels to me now. I began playing quite a few years back. i was introduced to league by word of mouth and i quite enjoyed it for a long time. Up until mid last year to be exact. Now the game just seems to be hit with patch after patch, removing elements that did not need to be removed... altering X,Y and Z when they were perfectly fine for quite a long time. ( removing mana pots for example), not just changing items stats but in some cases their entire attributes ( item 3508 went from being a lifesteal item to a crit item) Reworking characters that did not need reworks... ( Mordekaiser is a prime example of that ),...regardless of the backlash from the community. Even changing the effects of a characters abilities outside of reworks (Talon W changed from a silence to a slow). I cant make sense of the barrage of needless patches and changes in any other way than to just imagine that RITO programmers are bored... Am i right? I've seen many posts on these boards from people who also seem quite tired of the endless stream of patches, with many citing that they are being driven away from the game they enjoy. Im beginning to feel the same way. I just want Rito to stop screwing with it... its transforming from the game i began playing.. into something else that i don't recognize. I would understand a required patch. Hell id even understand a champ rework every now and then.... but this onslaught of needless changes and alterations... Im just SO SICK OF IT. Anyone else feel like this?

Why are you soooo salty? If you don't like it, then just quit. Not EVERYTHING has to be perfect for you're needs. There are tons of other plays that play, too. kappa

If you hate it then stop playing because they are never going back to how it used to be. Either adapt or stop playing.

I want you to go look at Vanilla WoW or TF2 or Destiny or literally any game with multiplayer. Patches are a necessity for every game. It's not a question or an option. I don't understand why people think that Riot's the only company to have put out bad patches, or who is still putting out bad patches. They're not gods, they just make games. Part of that is trying to figure out how to make it as balanced as possible. Riot has a faster patch cycle because that's how they want to do it. Also, aren't you kinda contradicting yourself? Riot isn't listening to a complaining minority and enacting changes based upon hearsay, because that would mean listening to you and your worry about your pet peeves.

If it's not something you enjoy, stop playing. You're not required to spend any time or money on a game if you don't like it, and your time and money invested previously isn't a loss if you had fun with it. There are plenty of games out there, most of which are incredibly fun. There are some awesome MMOs coming out of Korea this year if that's your thing. Rainbow 6 is amazing, and the community is pleasant overall. Nintendo has a thousand offerings of the usual variety, and so on.
