Why do viable champions like Warwick and Udyr get forgotten about.

Ultimate Deadpoo··7 votes·1,532 views

I main warwick. I'm not at all ashamed to admit that I main a champion that most consider to be weak compared to some of the junglers now a days. However, I've found that warwick is still a great jungler, but I very rarely see one if I end up having to pick a different champion. This raises the question, why do champions that are still capable of having great games and great moments, end up being forgotten about. I recently managed to make an incredible play as warwick, thanks to blood sent I sniffed out a dragon try, managed to kill the two in front of the dragon. Dragon has 69 health. I steal it, take out the person in the back of the dragon camp. I then go after my quadra and was about to get it when a Fizz jumped in and stole it. I then get killed by annie, and quickly realize that if Fizz had gone after annie and let me have my quadra, annie would of wasted her ult on him and I could of gotten a penta. Point of this is that Warwick is capable of making incredible plays such as this, yet is mainly forgotten by the community. Warwick actually has the highest win rate for junglers past the 40 minute mark, yet we rarely see him played. And same with Udyr, I've had some really tough games when the summoner using Udyr knows what they're doing. So I'd like to know why you think champions that are still threats get forgotten about, and share some champions that you think are still plenty dangerous but just aren't getting played.

How is Udyr forgotten about? He's been a top ban and pick this entire season.

Weedwick has been strong this season too, though he DESPERATELY needs a rework... and he's on the list, maybe this year? Doubt it.

This is just from my experience in draft and blind pick, maybe in ranked it's a different story.

Yeah, Udyr is a huge priority for bans in Ranked.

I agree about Udyr. Most of my Draft and Ranked matches, at least one of the bans was Udyr.

Your hitting the nail on the head with warwick, he is very strong but is mainly ignored by the community for the most part. He really does need a rework especially with his design which honestly is a bit underwhelming. With Udyr I just never see him that much in draft or in blind pick so I'm guessing ranked is a totally different story.

Warwick has a distinct problem that a lot of champions of what people would call his "Skill level" have, which is if you're trying to climb the ranked ladder you'll quickly hit a point where that champion's kit is plainly ineffective. It's tough to sink time, effort and mechanics in to a champion at a higher level of play that will see less and less payoff for you being a god of their mechanics.

Udyr is not forgotten...

The reason Warwick isn't popular is because he doesn't excel in a team environment. He can't gank until 6, and after 25 minutes he's useless outside of a 1v1, which isn't common.

You can have some success with warwick in team fights, but it is tough, so I do agree with that may turn people off from playing him.

A lot of champions get forgotten about if their kit is poorly designed until they get reworked except if the champion in question is actually overpowered.

Warwick is a really good example of this, as outside of when he was overpowered with Challenging Smite + Devourer he hasn't seen a lot of play because his kit is so binary and super unhealthy when it's strong.

Other examples of this are old Sion, old Poppy, Taric, Yorick, Galio, and old Quinn.

Because Warwick isn't seen at all in montages, that's why. No one finds point and clicking to be anywhere near impressive. That's also why Annie isn't seen in montages, and Ashe, and Sivir. And so on.

That could be a big reason why, I probably should have had that on the poll too. Oh well, just upvote the original comment if you think that is a primary reason why champions that are capable of enjoying a lot of success are forgotten about.

As a Swain main, I feel you. Riot does favorite some champions over others.

Yeah, in total agreement with you there, riot does favorite champions that are more commonly used in the high ranked tiers, but they give other champs the shaft.

Udyr is not forgotten about, I basically see him almost every game that he is not banned, and has been getting nerfs over the past few patches. He's even been seeing some play in LCS as well. Though I'll admit with the Warwick, he has been forgotten a decent amount, not at the level of Galio but he doesn't see as much play as you would think.

While I do agree with you on that, Warwick also does rank among junglers 5th overall in win rate. Yet how often do you see Warwick picked in normal draft or blind pick? Not very often.

he is a similar case like malz on the outside looks like an ok champ just not a lot of people play him yet those that do excel with him

Ww is not viable.

I've had plenty of success using him, and carried more than a few games with warwick. I'm pretty sure hes viable, then again, any jungler that can solo dragon at level five is viable. Yes, I have actually done that, and due to the amount of health I still had it may be possible to be as low as level four with warwick and solo dragon, for that reason alone he should be viable.

Well that is great, but I do not think something as simple as soloing drag makes a champ viable. Just my opinion though.

I mean, some people would argue that Yorick is viable because they "carried plenty of games with him" but we all know its a subjective experience and far from the truth.

That is true, and you could argue that any champion could be a viable/not viable option depending on the player. I'm just trying to show that there are champions that despite having good success when they are played aren't being played very often. I'm just trying to make sure that riot remembers these champions, because letting champions go unchanged for too long can lead to the champ falling of the curve, and I hope that through this post we can raise awareness for these endangered champions. Like warwick.

I don't think you can argue about viability. Viability is a state with determined criteria that defines a champs effectiveness in a meta. Warwick is not meta. Ww is not viable. We are not arguing about how pretty he looks. That could be debatable, we could argue on that. But not viability.

Thats just how I see it.

That's what you think I meant by viable? I just meant that the champion is still a good choice despite not being popular in the current meta, as the definition of viable is something that is capable of having decent success feasibly. But you are correct that I can't argue about the meta, I can argue about the idea of a champion being a decent option despite not being in the meta.

you can carry games and do pretty well with Yorick as well, doesn't make him viable. WW has an extremely binary playstyle to the point of being predictable and if he ults the wrong person (or his main target becomes immune to it) he is largely ineffective and does nothing but run at you and auto you while draining his entire mana bar with just a few Qs

WW is a good jungler to learn how to jungle due to how relatively safe he is and how healthy he can stay in the jungle and has some nice lvl 6 ganks but the longer the game goes he just becomes more and more ineffective... hell someone building a QSS kills the main reason of you ever picking him.

I do have to say that the idea of a champion being viable/not viable is very subjective. One play may find Warwick is a great champion and another may find he isn't for them. The point is that warwick does enjoy success and I'm not the only champion that finds he is a viable option, yet he remains largely ignored by the community. Another good example of this is Nocturne. I've had a few games with him and I've found hes really fund and enjoyable to play, yet I have never seen a nocturne in draft/blind pick. The goal of this post was not to argue about whether or not warwick is viable but to discuss champions that we feel are capable of having great games and being fun and enjoyable to play but seem to largely be ignored by the community and riot.

Also could people consider participating in the poll and upvote if you think this post is something that people need to hear about. For the amount of visits that this post has we don't have many poll votes and we don't have that many up votes.
