Let's talk passives

A passive is a very important part of a champion, it's the biggest thing about a champion in my opinion. Some passives are great, such as Lissandra's Iceborn and Syndra's Transcendence, but I think some passives could use some work. Such as Ashe's Focus. It is a pretty good tool for farming early game, but late game it doesn't seem to have much use. The cooldown is extremely long on it and only coolsdown when you are not attacking something. Maybe something could be done about it to make it where the cooldown goes on while she is attacking, or maybe she gains 2% crit chance with each level? (kinda like Trist's passive)

Another one is Morgana's spell vamp, it's not a bad passive but it's really not that strong. I play Morg often in mid lane and when I'm against high poke champs like Kat or Ziggs then I often have problems with health, even with Rod of Ages I still have a problem. I just think that her passive could use a slight buff (also maybe a slight nerf on dark binding >.>)

Some passives also seem kinda....lame. Such as Shyvana's. Shyv is one of my absolute favorite champions, she's really my only good top laner and I think there is a lot of potential for her to have a great dragon-like passive.

Anywho, this is just my take and opinions on a few passives.

Riot needs to decide if they want passives to actually be passive or just be a 5th skill. The explanation passives are the worst. You could just give them a real passive then attach the rest to a tooltips on the skills.

Some champions just have terrible passives and it disgust me that nothing is being done about it. The gameplay passives are fun and all but when I look at something like Talon's mercy or Taric's Gemcraft I just cant help but wonder why this was even allowed to go through.

Taric's and Talon's are pretty good.

I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read this. You think Taric's passive is good? The dude gets 20 damage per 100 armor he has. This is reduced by mr and he isn't gonna be building penetration. That's ass. If my name was Jayquan I would be all over that. At 400 armor he gets 80 damage on passive before resist get taken in. Then it requires me to auto attack. Which come late game isn't going to be doing any meaningful damage to anyone.

Talon's passive. Okay for starters I'm going to copy paste corki's passive. Corki's basic attacks deal additional true damage equal to 10% of his attack damage. This bonus damage is not affected by critical hits. Why does this matter?

Talon's autoattacks deal 10% additional damage to any target that is slowed, stunned, immobilized or suppressed.

Here we have two passives that both require me to auto attack and deal 10% bonus damage. GREAT! is what I would say if Talon's wasn't an almost entirely worse version of this. Talon has a condition attached to his while also dealing physical damage. Corki doesn't care how much armor you have and its just permanent while he is also ranged. If Talon wants to use it himself he has to burn mana or hope an ally is slowing someone etc.

The one good thing about Talon's is that it applies on crits too. The problem of that is by the time the damage on crit would matter you are either gonna 100-0 them or fail and die.

It also reduces ALL of his other cooldowns by two seconds. MEANING you can make full rotations of spells forever as long as your mana lets you (and you have a little cdr which is pretty standard in his build anyway) Talon has an autoattack modifier UNLIKE Corki and this modified damage is amplified by both MERCY and his E meaning it does couple well with his kit.

As long as you can auto attack after every spell cast and have 40% cdr. Also you dont even get full rotations as even with 40% cdr you will have about 1-2 seconds of downtime unless you ult during this combo. This is all based on lategame with maxed spells. Which means you are sitting there trying to dps the a tank or a carry for about 5 uninterrupted seconds which is not realistic at all.

Next on to talon. Yes Talon has an auto reset. From melee range. Corki has an aoe armor shred and an escape? I dont see why it matters that Talon has a reset here at all considering this is about his passive but I'm about to blow your mind so brace yourself.

Anyone who doesn't know how mercy works will say what you just said but that's fine because Talon's not that popular. No his Q does not get a bonus off of his passive in any way. It has not since his release. His passive only amplifies the actual auto attack damage. Trinity force, Noxian diplomacy, nothing that is an on next attack effect gets amped by his passive. The E amps the damage but not the passive. This is why it's so ass. It doesn't work with any of my actual skills. To top it off Talon has long cd's with super short windows to access mercy. He could have the passive removed and nothing about him would change. He would probably just end up with about 200-300 less damage dealt to champions over the course of the game.

You can list champion skills however you want, both of those passives are strong and useful to them.

Sure you can delude yourself all you want to I won't stop ya. Just don't spread misinformation to other players.

Misinformation? What misinformation, 1-2 seconds between spell rotations is essentially permanent rotation. As for talon he simply gap closes to get his auto attack recent and additional damage. And yes His Q DOES deal bonus damage because it is a modified auto attack similar to darius W. Meaning if the target is slowed prior to landing Q on them it will deal and additional 10% damage on top of its own additional damage. The abilities added damage to the auto attack is not +10% but the auto attack with it is.

OH man where to begin. You do know that i'm taking realistic things into account and not on paper right? No one is gonna stand there and let you keep autoing them the 3+ times you need for your scenario to work.

Next Darius W is the auto attack modifier not his Q. That could have been a mistype since you have played Darius recently.

"The abilities added damage to the auto attack is not +10% but the auto attack with it is." I literally said this already so either you completely ignored the post which is plausible or you just felt like restating something I already said. In fact everything after that 2nd sentence I already stated. You basically just retyped why I said you were wrong in the first place.

At the end of the day the passives are both still bad and they need changes especially Mercy. Unless you have an argument that isn't something I posted in the first place then please just stop because it's not helping you when you are arguing my point.

This misinformation. This right here I even bolded it for you. When you find yourself posting this, then posting the reason I said you were wrong in the first place as part of your post you just need to quit because you are typing a lot of stuff to basically say I agree.

not even worth arguing anymore.

I have a problem with Xerath's passive since it allows him to do what he does best... camp tower and use Q to freeze lane. Other then him... not a big fan of Nasus's lifesteal. Especially when he buys ten pots and uses it stay in lane forever. Farming.

I meant to cover OP passives but I seem to have forgotten, I agree that some champs have extremely op af passives. (Looking at you LeBlanc...and Kat.) Anywho, I still think that Miss Fortune could use a buff on her passive, I love her very much she's my favorite ADC but I think she could use a bit of work on her passive!

360D3GR3SS1 votes

Passives are different especially in the power department because each champion has power lying in different skills.

Lets compare Kalista to kog maw

Kalista - massive mobility with her passive and it is vital to her kit. Kog - Damage explosion because all of his other abilities have high damage and make him scale extremely good.

Both are adcs who excel at different things and different situations. Their passives support their play style. (kalista's being mobility and kogs being range. Kogs only close range ability is his true damage passive)

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Would that correlate the same with Zyra? Damage instead of something else because she has power?

360D3GR3SS1 votes

She has sustained damage not really insta burst like leblanc. so her passives is a burst of true damage.

Skittles91k2 votes

But some champion's passives don't really compliment the rest of the champion's kit, such as Miss Fortune. She can be a high damage adc but her passive is just...eh to me. It doesn't seem to work for her.

360D3GR3SS1 votes

I agree but I do see the design thought behind it. Bounty hunter, she runs after her targets. Also adcs want to stay away from damage in general, this reinforces that.

Fiona needs to have a percentage passive, and shyvana should too. That way it scales in the later levels.
