Fall of the support? Bottom lane synergy

In norms in solo queue I've noticed 3 things that have been abysmally terrible lately.

  1. In my games, 1-2 out of every 10 supports get sightstone/vision or even think it's their job to do. Worse it's been in years imo. I think this has to do with the rise in non-traditional supports lately. (I.E. Nidalee support responds "Nidalee isn't a support" when asked why no sightstone, yeah but you queued as support soooo)
  2. ADCs not letting their supports use Relic Shield charges. There is a blue charge literally floating around Leona in plain sight and she furiously swinging away at the large minion..... and Jinx waaaaits for it... and last shots. "Jinx! Let me kill large ones please" "okay" 1 minute later last shots "JINX!" "oops". Rinse and repeat. It can be confusing when the support swings at everything (supports please don't swing at everything, timing man.) but when the support literally only attacks when there is a charge present, that attack should be a clear indicator to the ADC not to attack that minion. There is literally NO benefit to the ADC and in fact it hurts them. You lose the tiny bit of HP and your support falls behind in farm. Underfunded support means weaker bottom lane which is bad for ADC. I have to mention my charges I would say.. 2 out of every 3 times I play with a random ADC and of those times I mention it I would say less than half of the time does the ADC completely correct their behavior.
  3. Supports going off alone to push lanes etc. Stay with the ADC but if not stay with SOMEONE. Leona can roam and gank but don't go and try to push top alone?! The support will say "I'm not dying!" or "I just cleared that wave!" Yes but top or mid couldve cleared that wave 2-3 times as fast and your stun/slow/hook would've been really useful in that last fight. Just because you CAN do it, doesn't mean its the BEST USE of your skills.

I just feel like supports themselves and the rest of the team aren't taking the role of support seriously since the last few patches. Traditional support skills like hooks, slows, and stuns etc. aren't being picked as much, vision isn't being used and the "buddy system" for supports isn't coming it to play. You're not going to carry as a support, but that doesn't mean you can't win or lose the game for your team.

Cause it's not their job... hasn't been since season 3. Warding is up to the entire team.

Well i think the problem is that not many people main support champs and most supports are last picks or picked them beacuse the team threatens to report them

As an addendum, if you're support:

  1. Take the cannon minion
  2. Don't blow your charges on casters unless the health is needed

I see too many supports barrel into lane and just blow the charges as fast as possible, or in some cases, even stop using them after the very first wave. I admit I've "stolen" some minions that should go to relic, but USUALLY (not always) it's because the support waits WAY too late to attack. (Tip if you're not used to relic, it executes minions with significantly higher HP than my early shots, if the minion is down to 50 HP, I'm gonna shoot it so it doesn't get killed by other minions)

"a role is traditionally supposed to do something" - false

Although I will say I have seen a lot more traditional supports just very recently... since 5.15.

If no one else is doing it, I'll do it myself. Most of the time I try to stick by someone's side, because that's where I'm most useful. But If the entire team is clearing the jungle, I get nothing from it, not even experience half the time.

I am not going to vote because I main support therefore cannot have an opinion on the supports on my team, because... it's me. And I play traditional supports and rush SS, lol.

You said solo queue and basically answered to your own questions by saying that, but I'll bite anyway:

  1. As long as the support placed three wards down, their vision job is done. You don't have a single word to say about it if I press tab and I see that your trinket is off CD and you have 0 wards on the map. You also don't get to decide whether the support buys a item 2049 or buys actual item 2044 or even upgraded item 3361 and relies on pinks to clear the enemy wards. So long as the wards are out there, it isn't your problem.

  2. That has got to be annoying but I don't play supports who use Relic Shield, so, yeah.

  3. I always want a teammate to get that huge wave. But if none of them is going because they are on the other side of the map side pushing, dead, or just plain blind to my pings, I am not letting this gold go to waste and possibly losing a turret because "the gold shouldn't go on the support hurrr". Come and get it or deal with the fact that I'm going. I actually find that it's a mistake some supports make to let gold go to waste when it's not going to be claimed by anyone else on their team. Better on teammates than you, yes, but better on YOU than in the void.

I'm a support main so I'm not going to participate in the poll because, personally, I feel I perform the role well. I do pick up a Sightstone because, like it or not, I will be the one putting most of the wards down in a game. There have been many times where my team expects me to ward everywhere even though I already have 4 wards (3 stealth 1 vision) on the map. With the limit on how many wards that can be placed down per player it shouldn't be the supports job to ward the map, but it is. I can't tell you how many times I've had 30+ wards in a game when my teammates have had less than 10, if any at all.

I've also run into ADC's that have no idea what the Relic Shield does. This has been happening less lately, but I have been flamed before for "stealing farm" when I go to use a charge. Not that I stop doing it of course, but the hostility is completely unnecessary when it's mutually beneficial. It might be because of my ELO but if ADC's learned more about what the support gold items do, the lane would be better for it.

I try to only push lanes if I'm playing a support that can easily be built as a carry, and pings to take down a wave approaching a tower have been ignored. Otherwise I'm sticking to whoever my carry is (not necessarily the ADC) or I'm roaming around the map to ward.
