Why do people hate on Kalista so much?

I don't really get it. She's really cool and has a lot of neat things she can do, but I don't see her as a Solo Queue pub-stomper.

"But she has a free dash without a real cooldown!" -- Yeah, but she has to auto attack to use it, which could put her in a tight spot if she has to walk towards her enemies first. Also, she is unable to cancel, meaning she CAN'T misclick, or she loses a CS (something no other champion in the game has to deal with). Also, you reduce her jumping range with slows, which almost every champion in the game has now, or so it seems.

"But..her rend can deal SO MUCH DAMAGE!" -- Yeah, but she has to auto attack you. A lot. Also, a Kalista will rarely get crit, so the bonus damage balances it out; the difference being Rend is all at once and requires good timing and knowledge of how much damage Rend does before Kalista uses it, or she loses a lot of her damage output.

"No ADC should be able to outsmite a Nunu!" -- Why not? Just because she's the only one doesn't mean she shouldn't be able to...She has good objective control and that's a cool trait that not many champions have. Why limit it to only junglers?

I just don't quite understand it. She can do incredibly well if her team knows how to play with her as well as the Kalista having knowledge of just how much damage her Rend can do at an given point, but I don't get why there are all these posts about her being so super powerful that just being Kalista wins everything. Am I missing something?

okay and combined with the massive utility from the ult as well as the general difficulty in pinning her down

It's just funny that you literally have zero chance of stealing since she'll end up doing more damage than Nunu's level 18 smite+consume if your team doesn't grab the baron first and that isn't always possible

This is just me personally, but I hate Kalista for all those reasons, but most importantly she is just plain not fun to play against. When you get cheesed with rend at level 2 that's not fun. When she saves her butt buddy on the cusp of dying, that's not fun. When she decides to bind to you randomly, that's not fun. This is something minor, but I don't even like hearing that stupid THE OATH IS TAKEN at the beginning (seriously why does the enemy team have to hear that). Even when you stomp her into the dirt and win, I can't say I feel like I've had fun, it just means the frustration of playing against this crackhead bunny hybrid is over.

If you've ever played against her as a melee champion with no instant gapcloser or ranged hard cc like Garen Udyr Mordekaiser Gangplank you know why she's absolutely the most frustrating thing to deal with.

Maybe because by design she'll already be very good at killing champions, taking towers, dealing damage to dragon+baron, while also bringing cc+utility to a team, so why does she need to be able to out smite junglers in addition to all that? Junglers give up a summoner spell to be able to properly secure the jungle, Kalista is doing this with just her kit in addition to being good at everything but assassination and tanking.

Kalista She's one of my most hated champions, I feel like she has no counterplay. Even in bot lane, she can easily disengage from a losing fight, and once she's 6 she can save her support too. Conversly, if she is winning the fight and you try to disengage, you won't be able to. She can jump toward you faster than you can run away. Also, I hope your support doesn't have any skillshots, as they're nearly impossible to hit her with. And the slow on her rend makes ganking for her incredibly easy, even more so than ganking for Ashe, because you can see Ashe's ult, it moves rather slowly and you can flash it if you're fast enough. Kalista just auto attacks, and after you burn your flash and heal to get away from the incoming Udyr, she just slows you, Udyr stuns you, she ults and throws her support on top of you etc. etc. There's just no way to combat that besides farming under your own turret the whole game, or maybe hoping you have a support with a targeted stun.

I like that you're saying this, because I've never understood it either. Maybe I'm just too low rank :/

Because she's an overpowered kiter.

/thread.

Because she is the single greatest hard-counter champion in the game. If you have shorter range than her and don't have a targeted stun or gap-closer, you cannot interact with her at all. Yes, there are lots of champions in the game who are strong against some other champions, but never to the extent that Kalista completely invalidate certain picks.

Hard-countering to that extent means that you simply can't play certain champions against her, and can't pick them if she is open for play in case someone picks her after you've picked. It goes contrary to Riot's own design values of Counterplay, which state that no game should be decided in champion select, and also goes against the goal of Diversity which Riot constantly talk about.

The people who don't mind Kalista are the ones who happen to play champions which are good against her; the ones who hate her are usually the ones who play champions that she hard-counters.
