DEVs/Mods please read this.
I have been playing since S1. TECHNICALLY, i used to play back in the WC3 days before it "became" League. I love this game, Riot has done an Amazing job at Creating this engaging and exciting Force of Nature known as the world of LoL. Because that is what it has become, it is more than a game, it has become a world of it's own.
I recently took a 6 month break from League, and when i came back, i had finally confirmed a HUGE worry of mine about League of Legends and Riot in general.
~~First off i would like to start by saying i have never been Banned, punished, etc. I have had over 1200 honors and i dont even remember how many teamworks, friendlies, and helpfuls i accrued.
I am not bragging, i am laying out my credentials because hopefully they will back my credibility on this issue.
Over the years, especially in the last 4, i have had to RE-LEARN how to play League over and over and over. i would say confidently that i have a very solid understanding of the mechanics of about 99% of the champs on league, how to fight them, how to fight as them, how to build them.
The reason and issue, plain and simple, is that (in my opinion) Riot has developed a very bad habit of changing the foundation. Changing things that are already Concrete under the pretense that they are Balancing the game. But more and more i notice that actual legitimate champions are getting Remade for no reason, item recipes are constantly changing and shifting for no reason.
Solution. Why are you constantly changing Concrete parts of the game, to force people to play differently???????
Why not ADD correctly? instead of constantly messing with the parts we are already familiar with. This might seem like something to be brushed off with "well new things require the game to constantly evolve to balance with them" But isnt that self destructive logic..? Why change the entire game for 1 new thing, when u could just make that 1 new thing properly fit the game?
It hurts me to admit this, but i am Legitimately starting to consider Uninstalling League and never playing again because i am so sick of everything that i am familiar with constantly being completely different, changed, remade, revamped, etc..etc.. the moment i Log in.
You made champs the way they are, for a reason. it only causes problems to constantly change what has already been established Over and Over and Over again.
Instead of constantly changing Concrete champion's skill sets, personalities, etc.. etc.. try working with what you have, and Adding to it. You will chase off a LOT Less veteran players and fans that way.
We play this game because we Love the champs we learn and integrate with. In a way they become a part of us, as a community. if you change that, you cause a rupture in that bond with the game that each player/fan has to Re-Establish.
Some of us are getting sick of having to Re-Establish over and over from loosing champions' (personalities, skill sets, play styles, builds, etc..) that we really liked. I do understand, yes some changes are necessary.
However,
The game isn't 100% about the "fair competitive nature" it is also partially about being connected to Your Favorite Champs. Some Champs will always be broken and people will always be terrified of them. Like Garen.. Katarina... Sona... Fizz... That terror factor is also part of the Character. Solution? Create a champ that counters that specific "broken" character.
Go ahead and ask the Pros. People dont just play league the way people play games like CoD or WoW, look at the community. There is more to it than just playing the game. People legitimately like their champs because they bond them in a way.
When you play the game, they dont call you by your Account name... They call you by your character name... in this game, during the game, you are the character.
It has a significant impact when you can no longer play a character you really like because it changed into a whole new character.
Riot has done a REALLY awesome job at providing an AMAZING game/world. Instead of completely Overhauling the things that are already established, why not just Add to Compensate?
