Sona Mini-Rework Idea (Constant Buffs & Active Auras)

Hi guys! This is my first time posting on the boards, so if I make a mistake/offend someone, I sincerely apologize ^^

So let's get to the point. After her rework, people were complaining that Sona's active auras aren't thematically correct since they give one-time buffs instead of constant buffs. I think they are right and auras that give constant buffs are more thematically correct. However, Riot does not want Sona to have constant auras; they want her to have "moments of power" instead with her temporary auras. So, I have decided to create a little mini rework idea for our favorite musician. This rework aims to merge her old constant auras with Riot's temporary auras. Please read and share your thoughts about this. Constructive criticism appreciated :)

(CAUTION: THIS REWORK WAS MADE BY A LVL 28 UNRANKED SUPPORT SONA MAIN THAT HAS NEVER PLAYED PRE-REWORK SONA. APPROACH WITH CAUTION)


NOTE: Sona's three basic abilities grant her a 450 range aura that strenghtens her allies. Auras last for 3 seconds. The duration is increased by 0.5 seconds for every allied champion tagged by the aura. More than one aura can be active at a time.

Passive - POWER CHORD "After 3 spellcasts, Sona's next auto attack deals bonus magic damage and an additional effects based on the song she last played."

-Power Chord: Staccato Deals 40% bonus Power Chord damage.

-Power Chord: Diminuendo Reduces target damage output by 20% (+2% per 100 AP) for 3 seconds.

-Power Chord: Tempo Slow's target by 40% (+4% per 100 AP) for 2 seconds.

-Power Chord: Fine (Crescendo as 3rd cast) Target takes 25% (+5% per 100 AP) more damage from all sources for 2 seconds.

Q - HYMN OF VALOR "Sona plays the Hymn of Valor, sending two bolts of sound to damage two enemies (prioritizing champions). She then gains an Aura of Valor, granting allied champions tagged by the aura bonus magic damage on their next auto attack. The buff refreshes every second they are in the aura."

-Range: 850 -Mana cost: 50/55/60/65/70 -Cooldown: 9 seconds -Bolt damage: 40/80/120/160/200 (+50% AP) -Aura bonus damage: 15/20/25/30/35 (+10% AP) (+10 ×  Crescendo's rank)

W - ARIA OF PERSEVERANCE "Sona plays the Aria of Perseverance, healing herself and the most wounded ally in range. The heal is increased by 2% for every 1% of missing health. She then gains an Aura of Perseverance, granting allied champions  tagged by the aura a small shield for 1.5 seconds. The shield value refreshes every second they are in the aura."

-Range: 1000 -Mana cost: 80/85/90/95/100 -Cooldown: 9 seconds -Heal value: 20/30/40/50/60 (+20% AP) -Max heal value: 60/90/120/150/180 (+60% AP) -Shield value: 15/20/25/30/35 (+15% AP) (+10 ×  Crescendo's rank)

E - SONG OF CELERITY "Sona plays the Song of Celerity, granting a burst of movement speed to herself and the slowest allied champion in range for 1.5 seconds. The speed boost decays to the aura bonus over the duration. Sona then gains an Aura of Celerity, granting bonus movement speed to allies tagged by the aura for 1.5 seconds. The movement speed boost refreshes every second they are in the aura."

-Range: 700 -Mana cost: 65/70/75/80/85 -Cooldown: 9 seconds -MS burst: 13%/16%/19%/22%/25% (+6% per 100 AP) decays down to 8%/9.5%/11%/12.5%/14% (+4% per 100 AP) (+2% × Crescendo's rank) -Aura MS: 8%/9.5%/11%/12.5%/14% (+4% per 100 AP) (+2% per Crescendo's rank)

R - CRESCENDO *Passive: "Each rank of Crescendo increases Sona's aura effects."

"Sona plays her ultimate chord, sending out a wave of sound that stuns enemies for 1.5 seconds, dealing magic damage and forcing them to dance."

-Range: 1000 -Mana cost: 100 mana at all ranks -Cooldown: 140/120/100 -Damage: 150/250/350 (+50% AP) -Valor aura: +10/20/30 -Perseverance aura: +10/20/30 -Celerity aura: +2%/4%/6%


TL;DR: Sona's auras now give constant buffs while active. And E is arguably more useful.

  • Better trading power
  • More overall damage
  • Stronger against DoT/DPS
  • E is more useful
  • Better clutch heals
  • Shorter CDs overall!
  • Actual reward for tagging allies
  • Less poking power
  • Less powerful heal spam
  • Increased mana costs
  • Less damage synergy with non-AA champs
  • Weaker against burst

How about we simply buff her Q but make it a skillshot?

A pulsing, repeating shield is confusing for the enemy visually. That's the reason Diana is the only champion with a repeatable shield, because knocking the shield down only to have it come right back up messes up the counterplay of "watch the shield and drop all your burst as soon as it hits 0".

Also Riot doesn't want a shield that is good against sustained damage on supports, because sustained damage is the primary damage they face in lane, and non tank supports have to be weak enough for ADCs (the class with the worst early game) to kill.
