Fair Matches or Faster Queue Times?

I see this comparison said a few times in dev posts concerning matchmaking and the like and opinions for both have been a bit 50/50.

So, I want to hear more people's thoughts on the topic.

I'd rather have fairer games.

Faster queue times would bring in less fair games because the system would just match you with players worse than you/your team even more than it already does just so you have faster queue times. And I'd rather not lose even more games at 5 minutes because the system matched me with players even worse then I am.

Honestly, if Riot was ever to make faster queue times, I can just imagine how many people would come to here screaming they're getting Iron in their Gold games because the system just shoved random people into a match.

There's no point to play a one-sided match.

Still, Riot is not gonna do anything (and has never done for... years?), because probably it's intentional.

i think most people prefer fairer game, but the reason why they give more priority to faster queue time is high elo. if we made it more fair and longer queue time, diamond would have to wait 1 hour per game just to have someone decline match and wait another 30 min.

i think, we should have more fair for lower elo and faster for higher elo. im sure riot could make it happen

To build onto your idea a little bit, I think it would make sense to have:

  • Normal games have a faster q times.
  • Ranked games have more evenly matched teams, (but with slower q times)

This should obviously be applied where it would have the most beneficial tradeoff. Probably upper-middle elo and lower? High elo games may already be experiencing long wait times for Ranked

#RemovePositionPickingFromRanked

Literally simple as that. Give us the old system. Players were better then because they had to play all roles, queues were faster because we didn't have to wait for the system to find a masochist to play toplane, and rank-wise games were much more easily balanced.

I wouldn't mind slower queue time for not only the fairness being increased but for everyone to get the role they want and are most likely best at. I don't know how many times I've went into games with someone saying they were autofilled jungle which typically ends in them either playing jungle but not well, taking someone elses role even if the person didn't want to trade roles, straight out trolling because why not they were forced into a role they didn't want to play in and it probably wont be fun for them, or a dodge which just leads to another wait time.

I think what you might find is extremely high elo players would like to find faster queue times, low elo (myself) would like to have the fairest games. I'm willing to wait 3-5 minutes for a fair game. If I was in the top end, I would much rather not have my queue times be as long, or nearly as long as my actual games.

I have said it before but I'd much rather wait an extra 5+ minutes to have a semi equal playing field. Too many times I try a normal to practice. Hard to practice when you are unranked and seeming to often go against plat/diamond.. Team full of unranked against gold+ enemy.. Hard to practice when the playing field isn't level and the match is a blow out.. The issue seems to be more so other lanes feeding, which doesn't matter because it's a fun mode. And folks wonder why people "practice" in ranked. Ranked isn't perfect but keeps things closer skill wise than normals, which are terrible matchmaking wise.

Would rather see fairer games over faster queue times. Watching a Player under Level 30 play against a Diamond IV player isn't exactly fun to watch.

So, this comes up again and again, it's pretty clear what most PLAYERS would choose.

Riot has an interest in this, however. They do not want longer queue times. They want people to spend more time actually playing, and playing the highest number of matches.

Riot logic: "So, normals are to practice and try new champions and strategies that you might not be comfortable with. But to save you 2 minutes we're gonna match you against a Diamond OTP on their main, okay?"

I voted Fairer games.

how ever my stance is honestly Balance between the two options. You want the fastest most fair game you can make. I loved teambuilder but Que times are what killed it.
