Jungle's always been my home. When I started playing, my school's 'team' already had a bunch of people who played support and mid, we had a rotating ADC and top laner, and we had a bunch of randos who occasionally played jungle. I decided I'd be the permanent fixture for Jungle and settle the team a little better.
I guess I could have gone anywhere, but I've always liked the 'special' roles in the games I played (Goalie in soccer, First base/catcher/pitcher in baseball, silenced sniper in Bad Company 2)...jungle felt like the cool alternative to laning. And with players named Theoddone and Saintvicious playing jungle in the pro scene, I couldn't help but be allured. Plus the champs who you played there! They were all badass like
or
, or they were silly, like
or
or
.
I started maining
and
and
...I'd always have people flaming me, asking why I wasn't duo top. But I persisted, and eventually I got good.
Jungle as of right now is hard. It's not a good role to carry from, and yet it is the gateway to all other potential carrying in the game after a certain elo. I love playing as the underdog, so I thrive with the extra challenge. The way Riot's treating the jungle right now has made it really fun and exciting, despite the difficult to master nuances (which, by the way, really hard on newer players. I don't think anyone coming into this game right now is going to willingly be picking up the jungle for a long time).
But I love the diversity of champions you can put there, I love trying to beat the usual picks (
,
right now) with some new or currently less common ones (
,
,
right now). Jungle's always shifting around, and it's dependent on so many other factors than just which champions have high base stats. It will always be the most difficult position to learn, to balance, and to master, but that's the beauty of it.
