Questions about Rengar's ferocity passive

So I get what the passive does (each ability gives you a stack, once 5/5 stacks fill the next ability will have an additional effect). The thing that keeps throwing me off is the cool downs. Sometimes after I use my E the E is back up immediately and other times it isn't same thing with the Q. And things all go to hell once I use my ult. If someone can explain what is going on here and how can I use this to my advantage in a duel, I would greatly appreciate it!

The empowered abilities (Abilities used with 5 stacks) have a separate cooldown than normal abilities.

If you use Empowered Savagery, you can use Savagery right after. However, if you use Savagery, get 5 Ferocity and immediately Empowered Savagery right after, then normal Savagery will still be on cooldown from when you first used it.

When your Empowered Abilities light up, you can see the cool down of the normal abilities in the icons. Look closely.

His un-empowered abilities have normal cooldowns. However, upon reaching 5 ferocity stacks, his empowered abilities all have reset cooldowns, but it does NOT reset the cooldown of his unempowered abilities.
