The Squandered Potential of Missions

When missions were first revealed on the PBE, I was really happy because I thought they could tie in well with other systems that existed outside of the standard summoners rift game. However, instead of leveraging them for positive reinforcement and tying them in with champion mastery or hextech crafting, riot has so far used them exclusively as a marketing tool, using missions to grant icon rewards in exchange for buying/playing the new champ (Kayne), The Omega Squad skins, etc.

This makes me kind of bummed because I feel like there's so much potential for something like missions...maybe they're testing actual missions internally and plan to release them but so far their potential has been squandered.

What are your thoughts?

It is a very new system. When they outlined the system before release, we could see that they were working on a more general system of quests to have around all of the time.

The quest events that we have had so far came out very shortly after that first teaser. That indicates to me that they got the technology to implement quests just fine, but have not finished working out all the kinks in the system to make it usable all the time, or to tie in to champion mastery and those other systems.

We just have to be patient and trust that they will continue to improve the system, and for now, we can enjoy the quest events when they come out!
