Why does no one buy alacrity?

I never understood why everyone gets homeguard instead, if we're stuck in our base I'd rather be able to move around the map quicker if we ace them. If we're ahead it lets me move between objectives quicker. In general, I can catch up to people or run away easier, it's so much better than a free speed up out of base in my opinion.

I almost never get Homeguard for the speed boost, it's all about the healing speed. If I want to be faster I buy a faster pair of boots, or even buy a non-boot item that gives movement speed.

I just about never buy homeguards unless we're losing and it's 25-30 minutes into the game. I like buying alcarity on Rengar with mobi boots to keep my in-combat speed up.

I get enchantments on different roles for all different reasons.

item 3270 I'll get mobi homeguard for jungle so that I can heal and get back to the field faster. item 3252 I'll get berser furor so that I can stick to my target when I'm the marksmen item 3259 Sorc Alacrity are good when mid so that I can roam lanes faster item 3261 item 3271 item 3266 When being Support or a Top I find captain to be very useful in helping nearby allies get to the fights faster.

and those are mostly all that I use and the ways I find them best used.

Homeguard is useful for defending inhibitors mostly. If the tower is down it's pretty easy to take an inhibitor, but homeguard essentially halves the time you have to leave for to heal at fountain and get back to defending.

I'm not sure how homeguard and alacrity would compare for running from fountain to fountain, but I feel the total time probably favors homeguard.

All in all, you get enchantments pretty late typically. Either because you finished most of your build or because of pressure at your base. In either event, you're going to be recalling to take advantage after an objective or running to defend an inhibitor, which homeguard gives the biggest benefit for.

It's worth seriously considering some other enchantments though for sure.

For me, it depends on the champion I'm playing, and whether or not we're ahead or behind. Like redniwediS said, just the increase in regen at the fountain can make a huge difference when you're turtling.

It's also a pretty nice enchantment if you have teleport, nobody is getting away from you when you pop out of a ward with 800 MS.

I always buy Alacrity. It is literally the only boot upgrade that I buy. Seriously, look at my Match History. Am I insane?

Der Metzger11/19/2014, 8:09:15 PM1 votes

i buy it on my malz and viktor

Corgski11/19/2014, 8:27:21 PM1 votes

I only get Alacrity in ARAM

I like all the other boot types, but the big issue with homeguard is that when you need them, you NEED them. A bunch of the other enchantments are strong, but they are merely nice rather than extremely necessary.

I think thats part of the reason why they were looking at making a mini-homeguard buff free in preseason.

I get alacrity all the time. It depends on what I need to be doing on the champion I'm currently playing. Some melee champs really want furor to catch and chase, some tops and immobile apc's want distortion for escapes, and I get alacrity for champions I need to roam with.

I do buy home guards, but usually when our team is on the defensive and I'm rushing between towers to save them and my allies.

Saelani11/19/2014, 9:30:47 PM1 votes

People don't buy it because of the movement speed diminishing returns. Which essentially makes alacrity pretty useless.

summoner 12 +item 3270 or item 3280 can set up some amazing ganks

I actually always buy alacrity for every champ no matter the game unless I'm playing MasterYi or Hecarim and my team is fighting half way across the map then I'll buy Homeguard to get there faster, but then I'll sell them afterwards. Alacrity is overall better though imo since mobility is important in this meta and the extra speed lets me stick to my target better or lets me have a better chance of escaping unless they have Udyr on their team. Look at it this way Homeguard is temporary while alacrity is permanent unless sold, but both have good uses for certain situations during a game.

Homeguard gets you to relevant problems faster. It lets you buy and return to the fight.

Additionally, if you ever watch Korean challenger they often abuse the teleport mechanic to do insane pick out ganks. (TP to a ward and usain bolt to a guy backing.)

If someone is attacking an inhib or turret, they basically have 2-3 seconds before you can push them out instead of 10.

Homeguard is undeniably the most useful boot enchant in almost every game unless you don't use it. If you want to willy nilly all around the map forever, take Alacrity or Furor, but in general 15ms will never make a difference in anything except 2 people with linear speeds determining life or death.

Am I weird? I build furor boots on Irelia with my triforce and just walk after everybody with 450 mspd

FantasySniper11/19/2014, 11:55:35 PM1 votes

I normally buy it when we're doing good enough that I don't need Homeguard, but bad enough that another enchant won't have as much opportunity.

Life if I am a champion that enjoys sticking, I can pick up Furor, but if I don't plan on stomping during the fight, Alacrity makes it easier to try and maneuver for a retreat or something.

FlaminMoe11/20/2014, 1:25:16 AM1 votes

I would get something other than Homeguard but no other enchantment has that healing passive.

Shaltena11/20/2014, 1:36:11 PM1 votes

you can teleport from pad and have homeguard speed boost where you come out is a lot of it.

ShinBlades11/19/2014, 6:41:15 PM1 votes

people play heroes with gap closer? WOW. garen mains get mad

AetherKingdom11/19/2014, 7:00:51 PM1 votes

Homeguard is better than alacrity because you can defend easier, and, if you're running straight across the map, homeguard is better. Alacrity is good for roaming and shit

SnowFall11/19/2014, 7:02:37 PM1 votes

You should make a topic about how nobody buys Furor, I buy Alacrity even when Furor is supposed to be suitable.

TheFallenShaw11/19/2014, 7:45:07 PM1 votes

I tend only to get Alacry when playing Shaco while using item 3117. Even then its useally past the 30 min mark by the time I get them. I don't feel they are really needed just the enchantment almost removes the negitive impact of BoM.

What I'd like to know is why peope never get item 3009
