Exhaust.

Problem: I feel like the situation with exhaust keeps getting worse, champions likeGangplank Yasuo Darius get their hands on it and it reduces the amount of counterplay you have to them. Solution: Exhaust--->Higher CD Support items-----> reduce the cd of exhaust

Or...we throw exhaust on a near-useless-for-anyone-else support item.

This also lowers the potential damage of champions like Zyra, Malz, etc, since it would take up another item slot, which would be good for the support metagame.

sightstone is an item most supports take no matter what build they follow, maybe redemption would be a good choice too.

Its not due to how uninteractive the locket/redemption combination is.

It also makes it so there's no drawbacks for picking a shitty support because you still have locket/redemption.

Homogenizing supports via locket+redemption isn't good for the game for the same reason every top laner going sunfire->IBG wasn't good for the game.

Its a lazy way to balance.

or they can just take ignite and ignore the item and pretty much insta win trades like there's no tomorrow since now the actual supports need to himp themselves even further by getting some random trash item while Zyra and company doesn't need to

No we need a higher cd on exhaust. Exhaust is almost always up on support

What if I want to take Ignite as a support? I am not a fan on how most 'fixes' seem to be 'Well... just lock the support role with it.'

WoonStruck1 votes

Does it matter if you want to take ignite?

Something that affects Exhaust does not affect you taking ignite at all.

The thing is... it does. Exhaust is usually a spell your team needs, and if it has a crap cooldown for everyone but the support then the expectation will be the support has to take it. Look at warding. Everyone has a warding trinket that can have 2 charges, but Sightstone exists. I mean everyone can keep a lot of vision up with those trinkets, but who has to take a vision related item?

Rarely are supports taking ignite because someone else has taken exhaust.

What you're saying suggests that supports should have exhaust 100% of the time currently anyway. In which case it needs to be nerfed anyway. Since supports are the large majority of users...issue where?

Sightstone used to be purchased by junglers all the time until they made it into a jungle item. And guess what? At high MMR, junglers still take the warding option.

Pretty bad examples.

Supports don't take ignite because someone else takes Exhaust. They take it for kill pressure in lane to help snowball their adc.

I'm just saying tying it to items that the support is mainly buying or a new item for supports isn't a good idea. It's mainly what has happened with Sightstone as vision is so important and they taked it onto a combat ineffective item so might as well make the low income role take it since you need to save your money on carries and tanks for combat stats. I haven't encountered someone who doesn't seem to think that Sightstone is a must have for supports.

As for 'all the time', it was Lee Sin commonly because he can ward hop. It wasn't in the interest of vision, but mobility. Otherwise he would not have bought Sightstone. As for 'the warding option' yes, they made a sightstone item into a jungle item which is fantastic imo since the best person to ward is the person commonly running around everywhere already for their role and not someone locked into a corner of the map for a good portion of it. Yes roaming is a thing, but you spend less time than the jungler early running around especially in low elo. Unless you are suggesting the OP was also talking about item 3711 when he said support item, then it's not really relevant since we're talking about Support itemization that would further lock in what a support needs to build and have.

As for supports usually taking Exhaust, I didn't say they take it 100% of the time currently. In fact the contextual clues that I was giving suggests that you take Ignite sometimes now which would mean Exhaust != 100%.

The issue is mainly of choice. Nerfing the cooldown so it's only attractive to one role would potentially make Exhaust be another 'must have' for supports. While yes, Vision is max importance in LoL. Sightstone is still an unrewarding thing to buy. Got a sweet double assist bot lane? Nice, come back to lane at the exact same power as before +150 hp. Supports that don't take SIghtstone are usually flamed which is an unappealing situation that I know has caused several supports to stop playing the role because who needs to invite it. I'm not sure if you're a fan of autofill or not, but the lack of supports is one of the reasons we are stuck with it.

Having another potentially (dependent on the nerf numbers, and items impacted) must have item (if it's not stapled onto Sightstone which god help me if they increase the cost of it for that) that will potentially add more itemization that feels unrewarding to buy may lead to more supports not playing. That isn't for sure, but it's an outcome that I can see happening which I don't think is worth the risk.

Haven't gp and cancer been taking that for a long time now? I just saw Darius take it for the first time yesterday

I don't understand why exhaust lowers resistances and lowers movement + attack speed by so much. Isn't damage reduction enough?

h5LYF41Lam1 votes

i guess why riot wanted exhaust to slow and lower resistances was because they wanted it to be both an offensive and defensive spell, just like flash.I think the attack speed slow was meant to indicate that it was meant to be used on the enemy adc.

WoonStruck1 votes

Implying Riot ever put that much thought into it lol.

They wanted it to be a solo lane option much like ignite, since flash+ignite was taken like 90% of the time in solo lanes back in the day.
