these "back in my day" arguments on autofill miss the point

People have been commonly been shutting down the "remove autofill" argument with an argument that basically boils down to "well I had it worse than you in the past so you have no right to complain"

It is the most self destructive argument I have seen on these boards in a long time, they are literally arguing for a worse system just because they are nostalgic for a system that, if i remember correctly, literally EVERYONE absolutely HATED when it existed, it was complete rng if you got your position or not and it was absolutely terrible

You are arguing for a system that does not benefit you simply for the purpose of being contradictory, not because you actually think autofill is a good system, if you actually think autofill is good for the game feel good to defend it but don't act like newer players don't have a right to complain about a flawed system just because you had it worse

I say this as a player who is against autofill and has played many seasons(and is still bad)

Ok, I'll try to explain why the old system was better than autofill even with the rng.

It boils down to: people need to know what the other roles do.

That's it.

Those who haven't played the other roles now have only assumptions on what that role is supposed to do.

  • They assume mid must roam or follow (but the mid knows that they can't follow 'cause their champ sucks at it or the other mid may be waiting in some brush).

  • They assume top must tp (even though the top laner knows that the fight will be over before the 8 second channel)

  • They even assume Jg must gank or the jungle assumes that their laners must come straight away if they ping some random object on the map.

Hell, some junglers don't even ping before going in for the gank because they haven't been on the receiving end of a gank in months.

I apologize for the rant, but the above used to happen far less. Yes, not getting your role(s) was a pain and last pick was usually support; you did get off-role people but usually they said they were off-role because they'd ask for a different one.

You didn't have that guy who queued as Jg/mid so he'd get jg then for some odd reason gets put mid but he stays quiet because he doesn't want support.
You'd instead get that guy who was last pick that links his op.gg winrate on x random champ pleading for his role with numbers. At least that was amusing.

they made two ranked queues and even with removing normal draft on the most of the servers they still can't populate those two queues enough to avoid extensive waits for those who are not support players

that's why they experiment with auto-fill. so, this whole role queue system is dying. they can either ditch the flex queue or you will have to adapt to auto-fills or possibly they should bring up the old system where you didn't have any guaranteed roles whatsoever

Actually, I was against the addition of dynamic queue. The previous queue was draft order gets to pick your role. You rarely had to play your least wanted role (maybe 3% of the time, which is less than autofill now) and even when you did you were still somewhat practiced at it.

Once you got out of bronze, people had an idea how to play everything. Which meant they understood matchups in other lanes and basically didn't whine when a hard matchup without jungle help went the way as expected...

Now your typical mid laner has no idea how the bot lane plays out and doesn't know which lanes to gank ASAP and which lanes to just let farm.
