Top Lane Bruisers need rune and balance attention, and bot lane build paths are a little stale.
Hi Riot,
I have two concerns that I would like to express, in order of importance.
Firstly, ever since the new rune system came out, I've noticed that there has been a lot of concern regarding no optimal rune options for top lane bruisers/carries. With the keystones like Grasp of the undying, Tanks are as strong as ever, but other than Jayce and Camille, there haven't been any bruisers played in LCS, except Jax, but as a jungler. Knowing how often the bot lane is being balanced and edited, there has been little attention to these bruisers regarding balancing or being provided viable runes. Champions like Olaf have lost viability altogether, and there's been a bug where Fiora's Q (an empowered auto attack) ignores Jax's E, which blocks auto attacks, but not an empowered auto. Part of the fun of league is being able to choose champs in a playstyle you enjoy and be impactful for your team. It seems a bit unfortunate that an entire class loses out on this.
Secondly, I've noticed, as an ADC main, that build paths have become pretty stale. Most champs have a standard 3 items that never change, most notably in crit + damage items. There are 4 crit, non damage items, 4 non AP inclusive life steal items, but only 2 crit damage items. IE is the bread and butter of almost every ADC, save a few ability oriented ADCs that prefer Essence Reaver. It would be great, and much more strategic to have to choose between 3 or 4 crit + damage items, which would make players have to choose between more damage or a balance with attack speed. I've noticed there are a lot of AP items that can massively change how they'll play, as you'll have champs like Ryze going for mana oriented items, Aurelion Sol getting slowing items and Liandry's torment, Sona, Kat, and Zoe going Lich Bane for empowered autos, full AP for champs like Lux, and attack speed oriented paths for champs like Azir. ADCs either go on hit or crit, with some variation on crit and attack speed items, primarily Runaan's Hurricane and Statikk Shiv. The outlier here is Ezreal, who builds items as he's more of an AD caster. Ultimately, with the correct balancing, it would be very impactful to have very distinct core build paths to choose from, unlike the current select few core paths and then items to choose based on your matchup.
Thank you for your attention, and hopefully we can get other players to post comment with their thoughts here.
