Of course this is a great thing, diverse build paths are always good things and add to the fun of the game. I remember back then when literally all adcs except ezreal, corki, and sometimes vayne would build item 3031 item 3087 item 3035 item 3072 item 3006 item 3026.

That is it. All of them built that. Maybe occasionally switching item 3087 with item 3046 or item 3026 with item 3102. AD Bruiser builds were slightly more diverse but it was still boring as fuck and AP itemization was considerably more diverse.

Now it's different, all AD champions have several build paths to choose from depending on the current situation and honestly this season ap champs are kind of boring to play now...

Almost every mage you see now builds item 3165 item 3089 item 3285 item 3020 item 3135 item 3116, maybe replace one of those items with a item 3157 if they feel like Yasuo sticks their sword in them too much. In fact even ap assassins like Katarina and Leblanc build the same shit (no morellos in Kat's case duh) even though they are a totally different class. Ap bruiser itemization is a tiny bit more diverse, but still garbage with them adding stuff like item 3001 item 3151 item 3030 and item 3152 (which you rarely see on most mages because they are so niche-y) and then continuing with an average mage build. Items like item 3027 item 3040 and item 3100? No where to be seen because they are outclassed by the more staple ap items for champions that aren't Karthus and Kassadin (though I've seen even Kassadins start to move on to more generic ap builds). Even the fucking choice of keystones for ap champions are totally bland. Almost all mages use thunderlord's decree because deathfire touch is only effective on people with spammable (preferably single target) spells and LOOOOONG damage over time spells. As for stormraider's surge the only ap champion I know who could use that to its full potential is Fiddlesticks and maaaybe Nidalee or something.

Meanwhile Ad champs can go build paths like:

Full Penetration: item 3142 item 3071 item 3147 item 3036 item 3026 + Literally any boots

Full Crit: item 3031 item 3094 item 3036 item 3087 item 3026 item 3006

Full crit casters (which more mana regen than mages): item 3031 item 3508 item 3158 item 3036 item 3087 item 3026

Highest mana regen in the game: item 3508 item 3158 item 3004 item 3031 item 3036 item 3072

Annoying ass "tanky" full ad build: item 3812 item 3072 item 3053 item 3074 item 3026 item 3158 or in an ADC's case item 3031 item 3046 item 3812 item 3072 item 3006 item 3053 (make sure to get warlord's bloodlust so you drain more than drain tanks)

On hit focus: item 3124 item 3006 item 3153 item 3085 item 3031 item 3026 or item 1419 item 3124 item 3006 item 3153 item 3091 item 3022 or some shit whatever just on hit stuff.

And honestly those are just what I tried on ADCs and a few bruiser champs. Ad bruisers have many viable build paths too. Why can't ap itemization (especially for mages) be this diverse? I really hope Riot is planning to overhaul ap items... again....

TL;DR Ap Itemization right now sucks Rito pls.

P.S: Tank itemization is also kind of limited right now... but I think Riot is planning to overhaul tank items someday.

You're a bit wrong about AP items. AP Champions only build rabadons if they're ahead. Otherwise it will be too expensive thanks to the price increase so when behind, AP champions may have to skip it. In my opinion, I think AP itemisation is fine. Then again, i might be a bit biased since I don't build magic penetration anymore.

You're correct with what you said towards ad itemization, but in terms of AP, there are plenty of builds to go on AP champions. The problem is that you are only looking at mages for AP itemization. Take Nidalee for example, the champion that I have over 450 games on. Currently I have 6 different rune pages for her with plenty of build paths. I can build anywhere from full AP, to AP off-tank, to AD bruiser on her if I take her top.

The other thing that you said is that Stormraider's Surge isn't useful, even though I can name so many champs that I find it to be very viable on. For example, AP Nidalee top or mid, Jayce, Riven, Rengar, Diana (synergizes with nashor's on her), Aurelion Sol, Darius, Kha'Zix, etc. Calling something not viable because you don't see people is not sound reasoning.

TL;DR You need to experience more of the game to talk about what is good and what is not good right now.

Damn calling my favorite item on most mages item 3001 garbage. I feel extremely offended as it has won me lots of games with the ability to basically live against my lane opponent and do damage with the same item. May not be a rushed item but usually item 1057 comes pretty early on in most match ups.
