How do they decide what rank you get after your provisionals?

I won 8 and lost 2 in my provisionals this season and i got placed in bronze 1.... I was silver 5 at the end of last season. I'm not an expert or anything but I'm pretty sure that 8/2 isn't bad... and I got demoted a rank. So I'm wondering: How do they chose your rank after provisionals?

They increased the range of bronze because there was as much bronze as there were silvers.

That's why you were "demoted" a rank. (In fact your MMR is still probably higher than it used to be)
