[Draft] Stop wasting time.

Alright this is going to be another bit of a rant, and therefore subject to opinion, so take it as you will.

Ranked games are dramatic as they stand in game, so to go into it you want a healthy state of mind, right? Right. The best way to do it is to go in positive, and willing to work with everyone around you.

So why are you going to go into champ select wasting their time? There are people out there who will purposefully wait untill the last second to lock in their ban, and their champion afterwards. Stop.

It serves no genuine purpose other then to waste people's time, and guess what; if you mistime what you are doing, you are going to dodge the queue, not only losing LP for your stupid choice, but further wasting people's time by making them repeat the process from whichever step you left them at.

There is no practical reason for this kind of gameplay, it gives no 'advantage' to people, if you know what you are going to play, lock it in as soon as you can. I can understand if you have to change your mind the moment it is your turn, it happens. Ranked champ select will never be static. But if your choice hasn't changed; lock it in.

This will get to the actual game part of ranked faster, and keep everyone in a good state of mind as well. Not to mention you will guarentee yourself to not be at risk to losing LP due to negligence

Just my rant on the subject. What do you guys think of people running out the clock on champ selection in Draft mode?[zombie-brand-clap]

I really hate the people who wait until the last second to lock in...and that's kind of weird for me, because I feel fucking catharsis when those people dodge. They got exactly what they deserved, no less.

Okay, cool... we zipped through as quick as we could.

And didn't discuss things like Composition. So now we have 3 Assassins, a Marksman and a Heal Support.

Hey, we knew who we all wanted, and we locked in super quick.

Of course now we have no front line, our Assassins have no one to draw focus, and the only way we Win is to rotate for enough Kills to end the game before 20 Minutes, which may not happen since none of us push very well to take the Objectives after the Kills.

You should be spending time in Pick/Ban phase to cobble together a plan, a strategy, a comp. Not just blazing though it because you know who you want to play.

So sure, if you guys already discussed how the team is going to be formed... great. Rush through. But if not, might want to take some time to discuss that.

I'm all for that, if it makes sense that you take time, then by all means, take that time. Ranked starts at champ select, but if you're just hovering over Annie and waiting for the clock to hit 1 second just for the sake of it, then it's mindless time wasting

That's all I'm pointing out.

There is a difference in wasting time and utilizing time.

Some times a person is looking at a Guide to see if he has a Hard Counter he can play in his Match Up, for instance. Sometimes they are working their Runes and Masteries so they don't go into the game with the wrong one.

Some times they are just letting clock run so they can Dodge for what ever reason.

Not everyone 'missed', some never took the shot because they didn't like something about the team.

But here is the kicker. And I'm in no way saying this is a method OFTEN being used either, but it's Legit Psychology. Forcing others to wait is a display of power. The problem is, you are letting it affect you when your Ally is employing this (in the rare times they are... I agree some just wait to wait). The longer the enemy has to sit, the more the worry. The more they second guess their choices. The more they go at each other if it wasn't exactly a smooth intro for them.

If you let them stew, but you yourself remain calm about the time passing, you DO go into the game with a good attitude... and in theory the Enemy Team is more likely to go in arguing and a bit frayed.

Of course, they could simply not care as they were in other tabs anyways. Could go that route as well, in which case the attempt fails.

But if you ask some one why they are hovering and they reply 'Not sure, just seems fun'... then obviously that isn't the case.

So there are valid reasons to wait, though I do agree some do it with no reasoning at all.

Alright, how about a less dramatic one:

Everyone discussed things like Composition, and everyone had their picks picked out, masteries done, you have a frontline, a backline, a synergized bot lane, etc.

Then someone on your team chills when they have to lock in. They wait. And wait. And wait. And wait. And wait. And try to lock in at the very last second, because why the hell not, let's waste people's time! But they missed it by a second; The second that they purposely waited for, wasting the time of the nine other people. Now you're back in queue for five minutes, your perfect comp shattered, your time wasted, all because some dick wanted to wait until the last second to lock in, wasting everyone's time.

I really hope that you get where I'm comin from here so I can stop wasting my time explaining it to you.

Again, I said USE time... not WASTE it.

If the time has been used and everyone is agreed... you have your plan, execute it.

I never once defended anyone who was hovering just to hover. Sort of ruins the plan, right? Which wastes time, right?

I merely pointed out that some aren't simply wasting time, but utilizing it. Don't rush those people.

Is it not fair to ask "Hey, just wondering why you are waiting, clock ticking down". Generally, they will let you know why. "Just finishing Rune Page, almost got it." "Moba says Champion X is a hard counter, and I'm decent on him. Considering switching Champs." Or "I don't know man, just seems cool".

That last guy, you ask him to hurry and lock in.

Or maybe they aren't waiting for the last second. Maybe they simply have no intention to join the game at all and are intended to dodge by letting the timer run out.

Some times what you think was them messing around and screwing up was them doing exactly what they intended to do.

The whole point of this thread is about the people I spokeof. Your post is right, and those are good points, but this entire thread is about the people who hover for no reason, waiting until the 1 second mark, then lock in without telling anyone. That's the entire point of this entire thread.

Time used is time used, if you utilize your time to plan a decent enough comp, then I can get behind that, I've done it before, changed my intended champ and fixed myself around it, but in terms of mastery set up, it doesn't take longer then champ select gives you, even if you were last pick. You get around 30-40 seconds after final pick to do trading and all that set up as well, and that's plenty of time to select your masteries.

I can't speak for everyone and their ability to make choices, given that it's different for everyone, but generally, in the ideal ranked scenario, the champ you are on is one you know semi-competantly, so you'll know what you'll ideally want in masteries, be it Strength of the Ages for your Voli jungle, or Thunderlords for your Garen spinning.

Wasted time is if you spend it doing nothing. It's wasted opportunity for everyone. If you are going to hover over a champion you intend to pick and have everything set up, the least you can do for your own team, is discuss how you play your character. Do you roam frequently? Do you take from your own jungler's jungle, perhaps you just split push all the game? That's fine to discuss, it's used time, and therefore, my complaint doesn't stand with you. I might not know what you are doing if you're on the enemy side, but I can give the benefit of the doubt in your favor. But nothing puts me out of the mood quite like people who are just flipping champions randomly, not talking with people, and then fumbling to lock in at the last second and dodging because of it.

I'm all for having fun, in the end, League, ranked or not, is a game. But Ranked is a bit more serious of a format to be in, and there are some level of stakes involved. Lets not get shot in the foot with the starting pistol out the gate

There are several reasons I can think of why someone would do this rather than malice.

  1. They are still considering the pick.

This would be the reason why I would wait to lock in a pre-hovered pick. I hover the pick I am most likely to default to. When my turn comes, I may be pondering some other options to pick instead but end up sticking with my default choice as team runs down. The goal here was not to waste time but rather to ensure that the right choice is made.

  1. Something came up that demanded their attention before or during their pick .

The player needs to take care of something and is trying to finish it before they lock in. I would rather they time out and put me back in the queue than play a 4v5. Ideally, they would not queue up if they knew something would come up, but sometimes things come up that you didn't know about head of time.

  1. They got bored/distracted while waiting for their turn.

This one is a bit annoying, but not strictly purposeful or malice.
