Legend of the Poro King and my thoughts
This is going to be a post based on opinions, these are mine and mine alone, and if you disagree, feel free to politely state your thoughts, and so forth. Do not hate me for the stance I take on this mode.
The first thing that comes to mind for me and this game mode is that it's nothing new. I think personally that it's a waste of a game mode rotation. What's honestly different about it that it shakes up the dynamic of it's game type? Ascension brings us a Deathmatch style gameplay, URF is Summoner's Rift on steroids, Blackwater Mercs brings us a way to influence minions, upgrade them, and an assortment of new items, and so forth.
But Poro King? It's ARAM with a special mob that doesn't do much. That's it. There is nothing else to that mode. It USE to have a unique spell in which you would Lee Sin Q as Alistar or so forth, but it doesn't even have that now that it was brought to the ARAM queue as well (Not going to complain on that, it was a good choice by the Riot team).
So why is it that we have to have a weekend with this queue? Who would honestly play it over ARAM? I personally wouldn't. I've played it both times it came out just to see how it was, and I was dissapointed both times, and I feel that simmilar game modes suffer this same fate. Nemesis was an interesting novelty, but what I think brings out the success of these game modes is the way they change the dynamic of the game. URF is the popular because of how insane it is, Ascension is great because it's objective is constant team fights, Hexakill... It's on and off for me, but I see it as a good thing.
What could be done for Poro King? Perhaps take a page out of the Blackwater Brawlers game mode and be able to buy items using a specific currency for how many poros you land, give him more health, movement speed, that sort of thing. But ultimately, as it stands in it's current state, Poro King is a flop in my eyes, and I know it's too late to change it for this weekend, but perhaps for the future, it might be able to see enough change to truly become it's own game.
What do you guys think?
