@RiotRepertoir (or whomever) What do you mean by...

So a day or two ago you made a post that went something along the lines of: _ "As to champions like Anivia or Pantheon, these are characters that commonly come up in "who should we update next" meetings"_

So out of curiousity, can you elaborate as to what you mean? As a dedicated Pantheon main, I am... hesitant. I guess what I'm really asking is: Is there a NEED to update Pantheon? Frankly, I think he's in a good spot and has a good identity right now. Perhaps his lore and visuals could be updated a little bit (MEGA FEET) but otherwise he seems fine...

Anivia I can understand. Most of the playerbase (myself included) only knows her identity as "That mana-starved Bird-Thing" that you rarely see played in the mid lane (quick, get your camera!).

In short, as a Pantheon player, I am apprehensive. Particularly because I highly enjoy his "drop-on-your-face-from-20,000-feet-and-fill-you-fulla-spears" style of play, and I don't want that Superman Spartan identity to go away...

I play the Mantheon with everything I got. Every game I give it my all. You could say I put my blood, sweat and _spears _ into playing him.

They probably don't like his laning interactions. The reliable spamable point and click spears and stun is a bit much against a melee character, especially with that shield passive to brush off attempts to trade back.

One could say the same for Teemo. Sure he hasn't got a stun, but there's the fact that he doesn't have to be in melee range at all to trade. By that logic, you could say that any ranged champion is a bit much against melee characters. Also, that passive isn't up as much as you think, and only blocks an auto.

Teemo harasses you. He doesn't kill you unless you screw up.

Pantheon harasses you down with Q and can easily 100-0 you if you try to go aggressive on him. His skillcap is almost nonexistent and he's way too oppressive to be allowed to be a strong champion.

What you're saying also depends on what point in the game you're at, what champion you're playing, how he's building, how you're building. There's a lot of aspects not being taken into account. Your statement is generalized and not necessarily true.

Here are the facts:

  • He has decent (at best) base damage on his Q with a good ratio.

  • His W and E have really bad base damage. Heck, W scales with AP (wut)!

  • The only saving grace is the fact that E deals double to champions and has an okay ratio.

  • Pantheon's R scales with AP as well and the damage drops off super fast if it's not a bull's eye landing. On top of this, it's VERY hard to land if you're not good at predicting the enemy. Even more so if you're ulting blind.

  • Pantheon's design is that of an early game bully. He'll pound your face into the dirt if you try to take him on alone for the first 20 minutes, but if you bring an ally, he's laughably easy to kill. He has no reliable escape (Ulting away is a very risky option). After 20 minutes or so, he's only really good for shredding enemy armor or making a suicide-pick on the enemy carry.

As for Teemo only killing you if you screw up, isn't that the entire idea of trying to kill your lane opponent? Punish and kill them when they screw up? Pantheon will punish you for screwing up, and there's no way he's going to 100-0 you in-lane unless he's been fed relentlessly. As for his playstyle, it's very much an All-In. If he goes in on one of your teammates, he thinks he can kill that team mate before your team can react. Always watch for who he jumps onto and be prepared to take him out.

What you're saying is an exaggeration that could be applied to any champion. Bare in mind that the concept of a skillcap is relative and that they never are the same between champions. Yes, Pantheon has 2 point and click abilities. Does that make him easy to play? Not necessarily. I still see a TON of bad Pantheon players out there.

You asked why, we gave you some potential reasons. It may be that riot decides to tone down some of that 'untouchable solo for 20 minutes' early game power in exchange for more mid-lategame power or upgrading his w to a true escape (and not an enemy minion dash) or who knows what.

It's not unreasonable to think that, if a rework is being discussed, they might want to shift around his power curve a bit, seeing as how riot doesn't seem to like low interaction gameplay lately (and point and click spear spam in a mostly melee lane with a free shield to block autos and turret shots is definitely low interaction in a lot of matchups).
