Current state of Midlane
So the Mage Update hit a while ago and changed a lot of things about most Mid champs. I wanted to share my thoughts and see if anyone else agrees or has different views on what it's currently like to play mid.
Items: I have to say as a mid main I absolutely hate all the Item changes. I can understand maybe the intentions that were behind these changes but what ended up happening is that I find more of my favorite items less powerful with the same amount of utility they had before. The mana changes seem somewhat unnoticeable( at least for me). Where as the Marksman update made me want all the new AD items this Mage update made me not want any of these AP items. Overall AP amounts are lower and the different build paths are now just about nonexistent. Before you had a choice between
and
, but now unless you're almost always going to pick
. Why was
nerfed so hard? Fraction of the ap and double the CD for what? 10% cdr? Playing an AD mid as of right now has never felt better, you get to take full advantage of all the buffed AD items and all the nerfed utility items
(feels good).The reason
is so strong currently in just about every mid matchup is because
no longer affects him and the one line of defense
is garbage.
These items seem... meh.
can be quite useful at times but
is seeing almost no play as far as I can tell (the stats on it aren't even bad it has 80Ap!). The mana changes I'm indifferent about, I honestly haven't noticed a huge difference(maybe that means they're working idk).In summary I feel like the items are less powerful and the build paths seem more limited with random CDR mixed in and AD mids are really strong right now. TLDR I want more heavy hitting AP items(I'd love something like dfg to make a return)
Champs: I think the champ changes are fine with most of them well needed however I'm curious why
,
and
didn't see even the smallest quality of life changes. Especially since Rioted moved
more from Assassin to Mage. Just seemed like everyone else got a little something. I guess it's hard to work on all mages at the same time but when one of your favorite champs is left out
