Climbing the Rank system / Mastery point system.

Can someone please explain to me why it is such a difficult process to climb the rank ladder in a sense of LP. I gain 19 LP per win, and lose 19 LP for a loss, ultimately making climbing a lot more difficult that it should be. What causes me to gain more LP or loss more LP in certain games, and why does this number change. When I first started ranked this season I was placed in Bronze 4. I have played roughly 220 games and now I am in Silver 3 and currently still climbing. However, when i first started I would see upwards of 20-27 LP. I have not recently seen that amount of LP given for a win, and can not seem to climb the ladder as easily because I am ultimately losing the same amount of LP as I am gaining for a win. +19, -19, +18, -18.

This is becoming a bit of a frustration because whether i go 3/2/24 as a supp, or 8/6/20 as a jg I will still only gain 19. However if i lose a game after going 8/7/12 and still end up losing the 19 LP. I do not find this fair, because I can not change how badly my team mates preform. (and trust me, i've seen the worst of the worst when i was in solo que bronze 4). I also do not think the matchmaking process is completely fair in general but that is WHOLE other issue, ( my bronze 2 top laner getting matched against a silver 1 in promos top laner = fair matchmaking? HOW?!?!) ANYWAYS the LP process is frustrating because there is no clear explanation out there on what actually affects it.

Why is the mastery system so bloody difficult to get an S-? I can have a perfect KDA, most gold on team, most CS on team, most damage to champions dealt on team, and what do i get? A's, A-'s. ONE TIME A B- for a perfect kda and most gold.. RIOT WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET AN S.

For example, 12/4/16 as Azir mid. 70% kill participation. Most gold, most damage, most kills, 170 CS and 3 wards bought. A-..... <_< .....

What determines the mastery grades given after each game, and what determines the LP after a win and lose.

  1. Your (hidden) mmr determines the LP you gain/lose for a win/loss. If your mmr is higher than average for your division you get more and lose less, and if it's below average you lose more and gain less. Your mmr goes up from winning and down from losing, and seems to be more sensitive if you go on streaks.

  2. Your grade is determined by your percentile performance compared to all other players on that particular champ in that particular role. To get an S+ your performance has to be in the top 2% of all performances on that champ/role combo for example, which can make popular champ/role combos and/or high skill champs feel particularly unfair to get S grades on, since the best performances are really good. Still, theress no absolute requirements, it's just a matter of being better than the community essentially, so even if you feel like you did amazing, it means that enough people were more amazing if you didn't get the grade you wanted.
