An Idea for Zilean - "True" Timewarp

Wall of text incoming.

Out of all supports, I would say Zilean is in the most terrible spot right now:

  • His passive is to weak and useless once players hit lvl 18
  • Clunky, awfully hard to hit stun, Q is, for the most part, only useful for dmg
  • Speed up and Slow down via Timewarp never reach their stated values thanks to soft/hard caps
  • His Ult, while literally a lifesaver, is simply to strong for his own good, as his other abillities are balanced around this powerful tool.

For a "Time-Wizard", Zilean's only truly time related ability is his ultimate and even this is more a "prevent death" than an actual revive. Other than that, he speeds things up or slows them down and chucks clocks at opposition... okay.

While I don't have an idea for his passive I think his other skills could become flashier:

With the release of champions like Kalista, Bard and Tahm Kench Riot shaked up their design choices and allowed players more freedom when interacting with other players (and maybe annoy them too <.<)

What about turning Zilean's ult into a "true" Rewind i.E.

Zilean's target (Or both, Zilean and his target) becomes Invulnerable for a moment and then returns to the point of time they were at 5-6 seconds ago. This Skill could additionally return a margin of lost health (REGARDLESS of the target it was used on) and lower the cooldown of activated abilities. If the target is an ally, Zilean is either taken back half the amount of time stated or not affected at all. If used on am enemy champion, both Zilean and his target are returned for half/full amount. If used on Zilean himself, Timewarp takes full effect.

-> Authors Note: It's basically Ekko's ultimate without the instant "heal" nor the dmg component. The reduced Cooldown on affected targets shouldn't be too high, I'm thinking a maximum of 20% and not a full reset either. Allowing some champions back to back ultimates would be way to broken. For me, the tactical implications of this skill are interesting as you can save/screw an ally from harm by returning them to a save location or taking yourself and an opponent out of a fight, evening the odds or screwing your team over.

Now, Rewind's path is the easy part: Just let the affected champions "rewind" to their former location and make them wind back to that location, maybe showing the point where they will end up after casting the skill.

Hard Part is what to do with interactions: Will some of the dmg dealt be refunded aka healed? Heals removed? tough questions.

Another possible skill I could imagine for Zilean would be a "true" timewarp in form of a heavy buff/debuff:

Zilean timewarps his ally, all attacks, abilities and movement are executed 10/15/20/25/30 % faster for 3 seconds. This skill ignores soft AND hard caps. Zilean himself suffers the opposite effect of this skill and will execute attacks, abilites and movement 10/15/20/25/30% slower for 3 seconds. If used on an opponent, the target's actions will be slowed by 10/15/20/25/30% for 3 seconds while Zilean suffers the same effects for 4 (or even 5) seconds.

If used on himself, only Zilean will be sped up.

Author's Note: I believe this would be another interesting ability on a Time Wizard champion. Add some fancy particles to the targets and speed up/slow down the targets animations. The important part is, that the target doesn't receive an increase of stats but rather executes all actions faster. A champion with 2.5 Attack Speed wouldn't brake the cap via more AS but would rather bypass it for a short period by just executing their animations faster.

Thoughts? These are just a few ideas I had while playing around.

P.S.: Yes, the Timewarp feature is borrowed from GW2 but I really like this feature.

if you want a time wizard play ekko. Zilean is the old man that just can't except the fact he is out dated. People who play him prefer to live in the past.

Zilean is actually pretty balanced right now. If anything he's strong. He can build tons of AP and just melt in an AOE with his Q, as well as have CC with his stun, be able to save allies or catch kills with his speed up, and his ult is a freaking Guardian Angel with more health and mana given at revival.

His passive I'll say is pretty useless but I think his abilities make up for it.
