Need help with vladimir gameplay

Hi everyone,

I used to play a lot of vladimir before his rework and stopped since rework, a friend of mine suggested to give him a second chance but each game ive been feeling more frustrated trying to work my way to synergize his abilities.

Ive had issues with Q passive frenzy which literally forces me attack enemy champ if I want the crit or double healing, results in overextention of the lane. Even with the additional movement speed ive found it hard to outrun the enemy even with mobility runes, and by time you get close the frenzy is lost. Im not sure about the idea of people building hextech probelt on him since it disables while he charges tides of blood.

Also how are you guys able to deal with the minion blockage from tides of blood + Nerf to rylas, you can't even stick to champs anymore. Can someone tell me if im missing something here?

What are some combos? builds? I noticed I could charge e and synergize with w

Well, you will see that Vladimir right now has a very low win rate, which is for many reasons.

  • He needs a lot of time to scale. Even if you attempt to play the laning phase as safe as possible, the healing you receive isn't great early game and leaves you susceptible to more enemy mid laners and junglers. You will be having trouble getting through the early laning phase, since straight up 1v1 is hard, while CSing as Vladimir is even harder.

-Nerfed build path. Especially Rylais, Vladimir now can't stick to his targets as much, while the nerfed bonuses of the item really hurt him a lot, since it's even bigger because of the passive.

  • Access to Grevious Wounds. With a lot of Morellonomicon users back in the meta (I guess they were always there but yeah), but also the resurgance of Katarina and Varus who have GW in their kit, along with the AD specific item item 3123 , the healing can easily be denied a lot. It gives a lot of room for counterplay. Also, the fact that Vlad tends to get a lot of high HP values means that items such as Liandrys or BorK are powerful against him. And guess what. Liandrys is now a commonly used item (they reduced its cost) on popular supports / mid laners like Malzahar, Zyra, Brand etc, while BorK was also recently buffed.

  • Has a lot of counterplay. Enemy sees the Q charging up, they are gonna run. That's it. His E was also nerfed to be easier to block. All these things make Vlad feel clunky and unrewarding.

To be honest, I'm not sure what kind of buff he needs to get into a good state. Is it just a numbers' thing? Maybe. But how can that happen? Buffing specific items can't be the solution since it will probably break other champions. Buffing his abilities? Still, the Q counterplay is there and the E block is still there. Really not sure.

Most people get Vlad wrong by building him relatively tanky. You should be building full AP, essentially. His damage is 155%-210% AP ratio on a 3 second CD.

Try item 3001 item 3157 item 3158 item 3116 item 3089 item 3135. Use 10% CDR in your runepage, either scaling or flat. Build the item you need most at the time; don't use a 100% build order, but prioritize the utility of having higher CDR or slows on him at any given time.

There are many games where I grab item 3158 and either item 3157 or item 3001 first, then sit on item 3108 for whichever of the two I didn't rush and head straight into Rylai's or Void Staff, depending on what's needed.

item 3065 item 3152 are both HIGHLY situational now, and most people fail to realize that.

For masteries, use 12/18/0, stormraider's surge.

summoner 4 summoner 6 no matter which lane you go in. Try to use only when necessary, and don't use both in the same fight if you can help it. Rotate their CDs. Ghost, Flash, Ghost, Ghost, Flash, Ghost, Ghost, Flash, etc. One at each engage.

Vlad does need buffs, but you can easily find success with him at the moment. Just stop building Spirit Visage when you don't 100% need it. Stop building Protobelt when you don't need it. Finally, STOP BUILDING THEM TOGETHER. You're asking to provide nothing for your team by doing so. Higher green numbers won't help your team. Higher green numbers won't help you if you don't have damage behind it.
