9/21/0 or 0/21/9 for support Cho'gath

I've been wanting to play some support Cho'gath lately but I'm stuck on what to use on one hand I like the 9 points in offense because of the cdr and expose weakness to help your carry in laning phase and and your team when you are grouping, on the other hand, 9 points in utility gives you that mobility Cho'gath lacks along with biscuits, extra mana and mana regen, and increased ward range

I think it'll depend on what role you'll fill. If you will serve as the team primary or secondary tank, then 0/21/9 is most likely best. If there's sufficient tankiness, then 9/21/0. I don't think there's necessarily a wrong way to go.

Why not do 5/21/4?

grab some cdr and expose weakness, and movement + ward range.

Why not get actual support masteries so you don't fall off like a rock?

if you are going support cho, I don't recommend running anything offensive in the tree. I mean if you go 21/9 you are playing as if you are going to be a carry, and you flat out won't get gold to benefit much from it. You're dmg early on is ok, but not good enough to waste so many points into the offensive tree. 21 points in defensive is not bad as it will make you as tanky as possible. the buffs to the defensive tree are quite good, and even this alone helps make you decently tanky without any items. With cho's natural health from ult, for a support you offer some utility and a decent amount of tankiness.

I still feel 21 points utility is always the way to go. the roaming movement speed is not to be understated, the gold income is pretty huge you get, as well as the mana regen you get for going so deep in the tree. It's like a mini athenes and is stronger than you think. and putting 9 points in defense is actually still decent as opposed to 9 points offense is useless on cho.

Still feel there are better supports then cho, but if you are intent on playing him support I think 0/9/21 is the way to go with 0/21/9 as a viable option.

As support Cho you need some kind of mana regen, either through runes or masteries. His mana consumption is huge.

Since a lot of support items have mana regen I already have that covered

that mana regen won't help you in early lane phase. when you are oom after 3 or 4 abilities and have no presence you will see what he means. this is the main reason orianna isn't a support as well.

0/21/9 or 0/9/21 are the way to go. You could try 9/0/21 if you want to be a poor man's version of Vel'koz.
