End of Discussion
Dear Riot,
Thank you for all your recent efforts in reforming bad player behavior. All the bans and chat restrictions and other coding mumbo jumbo is really cool and stuff but it is all 'post' behavior counter measures. I would really appreciate it, and I believe a large majority of the community would agree with me, if you could whip up some 'preventative' behavior counter measurements. I suggest to you what could possibly be the next big thing for league that would potentially solve all of the communities inter community issues. Ba-da-da-daaaaaaah!
Default Chat Mute!
Within the in game options menu a feature could and should be added that when toggled, completely disables all player to player chat functions! In short, by engaging the Default Chat Mute a player will enter into a game and not be able to send or receive messages from anyone in the match. Things like who slayed dragon or baron will still appear and pings will still be available to use but 'chat' will be turned off.
The cons: You can't verbally communicate with your team mates. You can't harass your team mates (if that is what you are into)
The pros: You can't verbally communicate with your team mates! you can't be harassed by your team mates. You can't get in trouble for harassing your team mates and you can't get in trouble for being falsely accused of harassing your team mates (Riot would have a log showing that chat was disabled). You no longer have to worry about short fused people flipping out on you for saying things like 'wow' or 'my bad' and you no longer have to shoulder the heavy burden of not raging at that 0/12/1 Master Yi.
Sure communication is a major part of League of Legends and yes, communication can make or break a game but heyyyyy look at the pros! they don't type to each other... from what we can see. They talk to each other! If players truly want to communicate with others they can get on a chat service and communicate with extreme efficiency! Also sitting there and typing out in fine detail a message to be sent to a team mate just to have it torn apart by blind rage, ignorance or dare I say, stupidity? is such a waste of time! what takes longer? typing out "Hey my lane opponent just went missing but headed in your direction when he left my lane, I am going to keep farming so I can get an edge on them, keep an eye out and play safe" or... Holding G and pulling your mouse over to the yellow question mark to signify that you don't know where your lane opponent went? Obviously the ping! not to mention it even has a sound effect meant to draw your teams attention to it.
In short, chatting with your team mates in game is a bad idea and can often get you into trouble, even if you didn't do anything! so please Riot, give us the option to opt out of chat with a simple in game option. Thank you.
