Fwotd does not count if it resets mid game or while you are on champ select

I really don't get why this happens. I was going into a game and had less that a minute for my fwotd. I won that game and did not get the first win. Why do we have to wait first for the mission to reset and then go into a game while you could have just make work like old fwotd? i mean cmon riot, how can you make even that a worse experience in this patch?
