If you played ranked last game, they'll use your last season's MMR to place you against similar opponents then they'll adjust a little depending on your win/loss result. If you never played ranked, you'll start rated at 1200 and then they'll adjust from there, even if you win or lose all your matches you won't be placed insanely far from where you currently stand. Also, people going 5-5 will usually see a small drop in their ranking. I was Gold IV, won 5-5 and I dropped to Silver II. If you are really worth more that where they placed you, it shouldn't be very lon for you to climb the ladders.

Best be is to make a new account and just play better. It's quicker than climbing through bronze and silver imo. My friend who is REALLY REALLY bad decided to play his ranked games after getting over (nonsensical) anxiety got Gold 5. System isn't really that good.

Otherwise, it's because your mmr is glorious. If you are good, then you should easily get out of bronze.

I went 8-2 in placements and went from Gold IV to Gold II - and that was off the back of an ~8 loss streak in preseason. Either you were low bronze last season, or you versed low MMR players in your placement games.

Your wins and losses don't matter persay. It is your MMR. I was 6 losses and 4 wins, I got into gold 3.
