What happened to Aatrox while I was gone?

I realize this is old news, but I Just started playing again after a lengthy sabbatical. Now, I'm not going to make an argument one way or the other about whether or not this new Aatrox is mechanically better or worse, but I certainly think it's lets enjoyable to play. However, my real problem with it is that he seems completely unoriginal; it's very reminiscent, imo, of the Scion rework, and tbh I think I'd rather play Scion. What was the thinking behind taking a unique champion like old Aatrox and rebuilding him into a close approximation of several champions that already exist? Idk, maybe I'm wrong, maybe all of those champions have changed as well, maybe I just haven't given the new build a proper chance, but on the surface this seems very disappointing to me. A lot has changed since I last played (years ago) and not all of it for the better.

He got re-worked into Riven 2.0

A drain-tanking Master Yi-ish playstyle while taking Conqueror is not the healthiest thing in League. Although the rework is vastly different than the old Aatrox, one part of the rework used to retained his old Revive, until it got removed thanks to pro-play.

He's boring to play now and heals more than he ever did before with more CC. Perfect for pro play which is why he was banned for the last year and nerfed to just be obnoxious instead.
