Death Re-cap needs a FULL rework.

It has been suggested a hundred of times. The current version barely gives any meaningful information.

The problems

  • Extremely buggy: e.g. You got killed by yourself/flash/sightstone.
  • Useless information: Mixed damage, items of the killers
  • Three participants at MAX with poor priority

I will skip the bug part because it is obviously broken. There are so many useless information and limits that make you wonder why it was so poorly designed. Mixed damage is the most useless type of damage because it does not help you decide what to build next. IIt should be split. You don't need to see what items the participants have. We can already do it by pressing tab. Why not save space for more information? When you get killed by 5 participants: Zed, Sona, Turret, Riven, a caster minion, it shows the damage dealt to you by Turret, Sona, and a caster minion only. I think this is pretty ridiculous.

Riot must recreate the Death Re-cap system from scratch. Given the amount of bugs we have now, it is impossible to fix them one by one.

My suggestions:

Readbility improvement

Give two version of Death Re-cap. A summary and a detailed version if you click expand.

The summary gives two pieces of information only: Magic, Physical, and True damage dealt to you Icons of the participants sorted by the damage dealt

The detailed version gives you damage dealt by whom and in a period of time.

Of course you can see all participants as well.

(Please ignore the maths and art skillsummoner 3 )

In my opinion, you don't really need to see a bunch of herpy derpy information you don't even read. You have like about 10~50 seconds to read it. Why not just include the most important information one would need? Simplicity should be the way to go if Riot is gonne rework it. You don't need the shit to mess with your code. Make it simple.

They've known this for a while and have discussed it at length. An overhaul is going to happen some day, it's just not a priority.

Why is your so bad tho?

It barely tells me anything about my death (your image) Sure it tells me ekko did like 1200 magic damage but that doesn't matter at all. What matters is what skill did what damage.

If I see Ezreal did 500 magic damage and 200 attack damage and it doesn't tell me why I'll build MR but he might not be doing primarily magic damage it might have just been strange circumstance. For example he coulda missed all but one of his Q's and hit like 5 W's and now I think he's more magic damage but in reality in most fights he's gonna do AD off his Q so I need to build AD.

If the death recap doesn't tell me which skill did which damage I don't know what to do about it.

This would be a direct improvement over the current system, though I think Death Recap could also go a bit farther and try to vocalize its data into useful information. It would be nice to have a system akin to that in Overwatch that could give you indications as to what's going wrong and suggest alternatives (e.g. "Your opponents deal a lot of magic damage, take X magic resistance item to counter them"). Other factors such as crowd control, mobility, etc. could also factor in, since they're often as crucial in combat as damage itself. The system would likely end up being a lot more complicated to implement, since it would be influenced by your role, your position, the enemy team's comp, what's going on at the moment, etc., but the end result would be a system that would not only be helpful to everyone, but perhaps even educational for newer players, who could use it to learn how to counter-itemize and counter-strategize.
