Shen: OP, UP or balanced?

Justify your answer please.

Personally, I really like Shen because he's a "stay behind me" champion. His Q and W are usefull during laning phase, but less usefull in teamfight. He's very tanky, but if he misses his taunt in teamfight he's useless for a while. His ulti is cool, but people often tends to scarper when you ult them, maybe because they don't trust you enough. I also like to splitpush with my item 3068 and eventually join the teamfight with my ultimate. I think he's very balanced if you are 5 premades, but a little bit UP in soloQ.

I build him as a full tank, but if I'm enough tanky I build something like item 3091, item 3172 or item 3153. I also like item 3022 to stick to my targets.

How do you like to build him?

His identity is really weird to me. A tanky ninja just seems... off.

Cant bring myself to play him from that alone. I think he's balanced tho, albeit a lot less useful than a Maokai or Rumble in terms of team fighting.

Yeah the tanky ninja thing is stupid. No doubt about that. I do tend to think he's more or less balanced though.

Well not all ninjas have to be evil like Zed . Don't you think that good ninjas exist? I mean, Shen want to protect people, so he's supposed to be a "stay behind me" tank. I just think that he need a gameplay update to make his game style less binary.

I never really thought about it in terms of good and evil. To me it's just weird that a ninja is tanky rather than an assassin, because, well, ninjas are assassins.

The moment it becomes viable to build both tank and AP on him he will be a bit on the OP side, but right now he is somewhere between balanced and underpowered. It has nothing to do with his kit, as the kit is very strong, he just doesn't handle the current meta as well as he handled past metas.

Well I play just since S4, but I heard that he was broken in S2. Why?

In season 2 all tanky champions were strong, it was due to the items that were available at the time.

He's balanced, but not really viable in the current meta, IMO. Haven't seen one since Season 3, which is kind of a bummer, since his ult was great for teamfights. Never played as Shen, but he's so helpful if you're an AD or AP Carry. Friggin' love that guy.

He's weak. He's not invincible when he ults, and he will almost always take a tremendous amount of damage when he does. Shen is a niche pick at best now. Not strong at all like most tanks in this game.

He's a bit awkward, Not terribly Viable in the current meta, as he only has 2 offensive abilities and one VERY situational ult so he needs to build tanky, but he also needs to build a bit of offense to actually be able to help secure a kill or do any damage at all

I'd say balanced, borderline underpowered. His lack of waveclear almost guarantees that you lose lane if you ult or tp and don't get anything out of it. It's extremely difficult to carry with Shen in solo queue because you need reliable teammates that you can depend on.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mbr8Rcktsu4 Shen requires dps to be viable and is very useful in teamfights if built properly for slowing, taunting, and zoning the adc. He has to do damage with autoattacks.

i really like him but i feel like i dont do any damage i just kinda stick there and taunt/slow until my team kills the enemy team for me. it pisses me off a little when i dont do damage since i have to rely on my team so much. so yeah whenever i play shen its my team who decides who wins the game mostly
