What makes graves such a great jungler?

He's supposed to be god tier, but I just don't feel what's so special about him. I really want to know, but after fighting him and playing as him, he just seems like a bland jungler with a short auto attack range.

I don't really feel his damage, from his ult (maybe I'm not landing it right?) or his auto attacks until I get crit going. Even then, it feels like I need tons of peel or they'll take out the squish champion that I'm playing. Ontop of that, I don't have cc, so ganks are hard.

Any tips?

It's mostly the fact that his bullets do knockback to creeps so he can manage to stay healthy throughout his first clear giving a huge advantage over ones that would need to tank hits. Also because of his combos that can deal a lot of damage when used correctly, if someone cant use them correctly then that's their downfall. That's where the difference between a good graves/smart graves and a bad graves comes into play.

  • His kiting potential due to his AA knocking back monsters makes him a great jungler with excellent sustain.

  • Jungle Graves is moreover caster-focused rather than AA-focused, so items like item 3156 item 1412 item 3071 is great on him.

  • For a Marksman, he's surprisingly tanky around mid-late game due to his E. Not sure about the outcome after his E's MR removal.

From what I understand, one of the biggest things that makes Graves such a great jungler is that 1. His Auto-Attacks push Jungle monsters away, and 2. His Quickdraw gives him damage resistances as long as he's doing what it takes to get the most damage in - which is to say, getting up close and personal.

From what I can wager from the last time I played him (which was a while ago), a lot of his damage comes from landing the return blast of his End of the Line, since it deals big AoE physical damage coming back. The only problem though is that the shell takes long enough on its own to hit the powder that most people will be able to dodge the second wave of damage, so for the most part you have to try and catch your enemies between a rock and a shotgun to get the most out of it.

His Collateral Damage, at least in my memory, should do a fair amount of damage too, but, as I said, it's been some time since I've played Graves, so I don't think I'm totally capable of figuring out what may be wrong. Generally, since Graves needs to get really close to get the most damage out of his New Destiny shells, I'd imagine landing Collateral Damage isn't really the problem. (or, it could be, depending on your playstyle).

While I know this probably doesn't do much to help you, I hope it does help somewhat.

He has great clear with all of his AoE and his passive knockback gives him one of highest hp clears. With redbuff his ganks are deadly as well if he flanks
