Unpopular opinion - NERF FLASH?

A little while ago heal became quite popular across the game, so riot nerfed it. Instead people started to take teleport, so that got nerfed.

My question is why doesn't flash get nerfed on the same principle? Flash is considered an essential summoner on like 95% of champions in any role. In any given game there might be one person who doesn't have flash. If it were treated like any other aspect of league it would get nerfed. If even 50% of people started taking a particular keystone rune, or a particular summoner spell, or a champion had such high popularity it would get nerfed.

I feel like a flash nerf is in order, and i'm not even saying that as a Zed main or anything who's salty about people getting away (I play support). Maybe if it had an increased cooldown to like 500 seconds it would be a bit less popular, and the hexflash rune would get a bit more use as those who still took flash might grab it. The idea that flash can't be nerfed because it's essential is exactly why it should be nerfed, it's exactly the reason so many other things have been nerfed.

Would be a big nerf to champs that are flash dependent to get their combos off mid-late.

Removing flash is something that I'm sure has Riot's attention. Assuming that, let's talk about why they would be reluctant to do that anyway.

Consider all the champions that rely on flash to play the game. Consider every flash combo that champs have. Consider how many champs have abilities or ults that are only easily dodged with flash.

Removing flash would be a balance nightmare. You think new runes were bad? Think again. There's not a single change in the entire game (ridiculous number changes excluded), imo, that would cause as much of a balance upset as removing flash. Given how much complaining has been done about the rate of change lately... there's not a chance they'll touch it any time soon.

I don't really see an issue with Flash being a staple as of right now. As others have said, it's a needed tool for those champs who would be very vulnerable without it. On top of that, it's much more useful and versatile than all the other summoner spells because it provides offensive and defensive options. I think that if Riot wanted to make other spells more viable they'd have to do the same for other spells. For example, Barrier could have an added pushback effect or Ignite could restore mana. I'm not saying we should implement those exact changes, but those are the kinds of things that would need to change to create diversity in terms of spells.

I've never really felt a strong urge to set-up something like teleport/ignite or heal/barrier, but I do still see those builds sometimes even if it is an outlier.

Because they nerfed flash many times over the years and it never changed anything. It got to the point where they realized either they have to remove it or allow it to be mandatory. They decided to leave it because it has the richest gameplay of any summoner spell.
