@Meddler Randuin's Omen reduces Anivia's Damage

TLDR: item 3143 reduces Anivia's E damage

EDIT: Meddler: "Just heard back from Xypherous, apparently that's working as intended. Randuin's should be reducing any form of crit damage, not just auto attack crits (so anything that uses the crit combat text/symbol)."

I was at an end game stat screen and i noticed that Anivia enhanced damage on her E is considered a "critical strike"

Then I went into a custom game with Soraka and Anivia to test out if item 3143 reduced the damage dealt by the spells.

The results were that Soraka Q damage was not affected by item 3143, but Anivia e damage is reduced by a certain amount. Even though both instances of damage were labeled as "largest critical strike", why is this different? And is the damage reduction on Anivia intended?

Test methods. Soraka was hit by Anivia E while slowed and non slowed, then the same process repeats with the Soraka equipping item 3143. The non slow damage instances in both cases were the same, showing the bonus armor and health does not affect the magic damage of Anivia's E. However, the slowed damage were different with the item 3143 reducing the damage from 271 magic damage to 258 magic damage on a level 7 Soraka with no defensive runes. Concluding that item 3143 reduces Anivia's E damage

List of champions that uses crit symbol:

Not Tested: Gragas Janna

Reduced by Omen: Anivia Karthus

Not Reduced by omen: Soraka

Huh, nice catch. I'm pretty sure that's not intentional, will pass this thread on to the folks on the Systems team that have been doing the item overhauls.

on a side note, to counter this issue. build item 3031 on Anivia to increase the e damage kappa

Oh shit

Does that mean it reduces Karthus isolated Q damage?

LOL

Old code strikes when new mechanics enter the game. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

I definitely agree that if annivia's E is affected by randuins then it should be fixed with IE and crit runes it definitely impacts her game play.

Intended? Really?

Good thing too! Anivia is super OP, banned in all games, and complained about constantly on the boards.

She needs another thing to put her down even more. Like, armor making her magic weaker. That's sounds like a good way to hit her.

Just think about how that sounds. Armor making her magic weaker.

I have just tested Karthus q, and it indeed does get lowered by Randuin's Omen

For some reason Anivia's E is coded as a Critical Strike.

It's funny at the endgame to see "largest crit" and have it be like the 1400 I did to a super minion.

Wow so this is a nerf to Karthus Q...

Mathlete8649/7/2015, 5:16:32 PM2 votes

A fully charged Janna Q also crits

Honestly, to me this is ridiculous. I'm not usually a person who complains about the smaller things in this game but they need to change this. Clarity is something that Riot has stated (multiple times) they strive to achieve in LoL. Having an armor item reduce crit damage from an AP champ just sounds odd to me.

The worst part is that almost every "tankier" champion buys this item when they want some health/armor. 10% damage reduction is a lot of damage lost for an AP champion. Especially when Anivia doesn't have the greatest ap ratios in the first place.

To save everybody the effort of looking thro this whole post to figure out what's going on here.

"Riot, we found a problem"

Riot- "nope, it's supposed to do that. It reduces all forms of crit damage, even ones that are never stated as being a crit and gain no benefit from crit increaseing items.

We don't see this a problem because building this item for this isn't a good idea to begin with. "

So because they spaghetti coded a good chunk of spells to deal bonus damage under certain condition to read as crits, it's now even easier to itemize for them while still being tanky to ad.
They have a Karthus and an Ash giving you problems? Build randuans and crap on both of them.

Becuse it's not at all a bad design for an armor item to give you resistance to a spell dealing magic damage. No Its really not a bad idea.

Its outright the dumbest thing I've ever heard, that's what it is.

Anivias E is a bit buggy. I've been meaning to send in a clip of an instance where Anivia's E didn't do any damage to an enemy Riven twice. I went over it in the replay a couple of times to be sure it wasn't her barrier. But the shot was consumed and no damage ever applied to Riven. I noticed it usually has to do with Anivia being knocked up (Specifically knocked up) while the projectile is airborne.
