Ryze... Oh lord
Ryze has seen a few ups and downs, and he did deserve a reasonable nerf when they reworked his kit. HOWEVER. Ryze is now a useless pile of garbage.
No... I go to far. I like Ryze, but I want to love him, and I really cant. He used to be unique by being able to build only mana and still burst people down. That was a mechanic that was interesting to him and him alone in the champion pool. But the scaling is so far down now if you want to do good in a game you still end up building 
ROA, 
Abyssal, 
Ludens, 
Deathcap,
Zhonyas... just like every single other mage in the game.
The changes that Riot made to Ryze's kit work fine, although his passive seems a little weird. EXCEPT.... the mana damage scaling. Theres no reason to even consider building mana items over mage items. The only thing that makes him somewhat unique is the 
Archangel staff first buy... but even then plenty of other mids commonly buy and untilize it too. I want to be able to build all mana and tank and 'stand and deliver' and still be viable. Because that was what made Ryze fun. But instead I turn into a slow, short range, useless bag of gold that has only the purpose of peeling off the adc, and not even being very good at it.
When it comes down to it, Ryze has become the most boring, basic mage that you can get. He pales in comparison to other mages like

if you want to do damage, mostly because of his short range.
But if you want to be that beefy tank mage, you don't do anymore damage than a 
...now I'm not sayin tahm is bad, but he isn't known for doing damage. Ryze shouldn't be brought down to that sad level when he was supposed to be the face-mage of league.
The devs need to take a second look at Ryze, cause they didn't nerf the champion as much as they nerfed the fun right out of playing him. Which is sad because to most people he was already pretty boring. He just isn't satisfying or powerful and now as a result needs a re-re-work.
Get this garbage can outa here and bring us a Ryze that can be that powerful in-your-face mage that we want to be!
